On September 12, members of Tatler’s newly released Asia’s Most Stylish list gathered at The Upper House’s Sky Lounge for an evening of celebration
On September 12, The Upper House’s Sky Lounge was abuzz with glamour and excitement as Tatler Hong Kong hosted an intimate soirée to unveil the highly anticipated Asia’s Most Stylish list for 2023. The evening was a perfect fusion of elegance, music and insightful discussions with A-listers, It-girls, and in-demand party fixtures.
The evening’s highlights are difficult to narrow down. The event kicked off with a powerful speech by Tatler’s content director Ahy Choi on the significance of the annual list: “Style goes far beyond the realms of clothing and accessories,” she said. “It is an expression of personality, and a daring embrace of one’s true self. It is a celebration of what it means to be stylish in today’s world.”
Fifty honourees across five regions, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines were celebrated, and the selection process was no easy feat. Tatler’s regional fashion director, Cherry Mui, who led the project, weighed in on how each market selected their nominees. Considerations were made on each honouree’s style presence, social impact through style, evolution of personal style, consistency and connection with major brands.

Ten categories were introduced this year to highlight icons across a breadth of different genres. Robert Wun, who made history as the first Hong Kong designer to debut a couture collection at Paris Fashion Week, was honoured under The Creatives, a category which encompasses designers, photographers and stylists, who create captivating visuals and defy trends. Kevin Poon was honoured under The Bridges category for his active roles in curating and designing, as well as bringing together different communities and showcasing emerging talents.
Following a video montage which announced the fashion-forward individuals who made it onto the list, guests, which included Ming Ho-Tang and Federico Tan, raised their glasses to congratulate them. They then enjoyed a spread by The Upper House’s renowned executive chef Cary Docherty, who curated a menu that delighted the senses and complemented the evening's festivities.
Later on, singer and actress Ashley Lin captivated the audience with a soulful set, with guests singing along to her rendition of Norah Jones’s 2002 classic tune Don’t Know Why.
Following the performance, the spotlight shifted to a thought-provoking panel talk featuring Claudia Shaw, who heads the style advisory for Chanel Asia Pacific, and beauty and fashion influencer Elva Ni; both were Tatler’s Asia’s Most Influential honourees in years past. The discussion delved into the ever-evolving landscape of fashion, highlighting the importance of personal style and the power of social media.
Any party needs a great playlist, and Wil Fang, aka DJ Fang2K, took to the decks at the afterparty at the hotel’s Green Room, where the beautiful crowd worked the room. They celebrated the achievements of the honourees, with conversations surrounding the fashion industry’s future and the impact of the Asia’s Most Stylish list. The evening was a showcase of the power of fashion and its ability to inspire and unite; it also served as a reminder of the ever-evolving nature of fashion and the individuals who continue to shape and redefine the industry.
