The South Korean footballer was recently crowned the first Asian player to win the coveted and highly prestigious Golden Boot award

Iconic British luxury brand Burberry has announced South Korean footballer Son Heung-min as its latest ambassador after releasing a set of portraits captured exclusively for the house.

Son, who recently made history as the first Asian player to co-win the 2021/2022 Golden Boot award, an annual award presented to the leading goal scorer in the Premier League, is well known as a highly decorated athlete.

The spunky footballer started his sporting career after being trained by his father who, like him, was very invested in the sport. By the time he was 16, he was talented enough to move to Germany to join the German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV.

Three years after he graduated from the German league, the star ended up signing on to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, a German professional football club. He continued to rise through the ranks and in 2015, Tottenham signed Son for £22 million (SG$40 million).

This propelled him to become the most expensive Asian footballer in history.

By 2017, Son played so well that he became the Asian player with the most goals in the English Premier League, which explains why Son continues to play for Tottenham Hotspur today.

Recently, the star signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the Premier League club till June 2025.

It was this ability and desire of Son’s to push boundaries and to work toward his goals that scored him the role of Burberry’s ambassador. The fashion brand is well known for pushing boundaries and clearly saw itself reflected in Son.

“I’m happy to be the new ambassador for Burberry. Being an athlete from the Premier League, it’s my honour to partner with a brand so rich in British heritage. I love how Burberry strives for imagination and innovation which has been deeply inherited in its history and which are values that I champion. I’m very excited for the newfound journey that we will together develop,” said Son in a media release.

Below, Son is photographed in three different looks. The first is a black nylon and cotton hooded jacket with cargo trousers and sneakers.

The second is an archive Burberry Check nylon hooded jacket and matching shorts while the last is a camel hair and wool sleeveless tailored coat from the pre-fall/winter 2022 collection.
