The German luxury brand is launching an exclusive Original Cabin suitcase through NFTs

Rimowa is no stranger to ultra-cool collaborations, but its latest design project is simply out of this world. The German luxury luggage brand has teamed up with the Nike-owned virtual design studio Rtfkt to release limited-edition luggage on the metaverse.

The Rimowa x Rtfkt Original Cabin suitcase is first launching as an NFT, with only 888 pieces available. The NFT will then allow its owner to “forge” their digital asset and redeem a piece of physical luggage. The physical and virtual versions of the suitcase feature an exclusive ‘Wandersmith’ pattern print, comprising pixellated motifs and iconography from Rimowa and Rtfkt.

The physical luggage is crafted from Rimowa’s signature grooved aluminium, creating a lightweight design that will easily fit most airplane overhead compartments. Each suitcase is also embedded with NFC tags. If that looks and sounds like your dream travel accessory, then get your cryptocurrency wallet ready.

The luggage NFTs will launch on the Rimowa x Rtfkt Space Station, an online platform where users will have to solve challenges together in order to mint their NFTs. The platform will go live on October 27 and can be accessed by entering a live draw system.

Besides the limited-edition luggage, crypto-savvy collectors can also mint WorkerBot NFTs, a robot-inspired collectible specially designed for the Rimowa x Rtfkt collection with only 2,222 pieces up for grabs. The two brands will also unveil four Avatar Wearables as part of the collaboration.

“This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity for two brands who excel in their fields to come together to create products that can live both in the digital and physical realm,” said Emelie De Vitis, Rimowa’s chief marketing officer, in a statement. “To enter the metaverse with Rtfkt is truly exciting, as it allows us to explore what travel means there.”
