Esteemed designer Paul Cabral unveils his UNA collection at the Laperal Mansion this February
Most people would agree that Paul Cabral is one of the most established fashion designers in the Philippines. Having adorned the former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada, whom he holds dearly to his heart, and dressing the First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, who graced the cover of the August 2023 issue of Tatler in his very own creations, Cabral stands as one of the go-to designers for politicians. On February 27 at the Laperal Mansion, he further solidifies his place in the industry with his first fashion show.
“I never had a fashion show before, so I am excited to showcase my UNA collection,” Cabral tells Tatler in an exclusive interview. His line, which revolves around a classical Filipiniana theme paired with a modern touch, mainly uses piña textiles and some of the best local fabrics.

Cabral usually designs clothes for specific clients. This show allows him to design based on his wants and preferences: “I am designing for me.” It took him several months to complete the collection, and he deems it fulfilling despite going through multiple creative processes.

With more local buyers appreciating and wearing Filipino clothes like terno, Cabral had to show something new for the UNA collection. “I added a little twist by exploring other silhouettes and Filipino fabrics from different regions and executing a new and contemporary approach,” he shares. “I’ve also done some manipulations with our locally-produced fabrics and created new textures using Filipino materials like shells and pearls.”

For the designer, the local fashion scene is currently vibrant and active. “Like me, you can see plenty of Filipino designers using local textiles like the piña and inabel of Ilocos.”
He is confident that he’ll be seeing more flourishing designers, weavers, sewers, beauty artists, and creatives in the future—a key factor in his ultimate dream. “With the help of our non-profit organisation, Fashion Aid Philippines, I want to unite the local artisans to grow and innovate Filipino talent through projects and educational activities necessary to our field.”
