Get to know what inspires this fashion designer whose works conjure vibrant images of the tropics
One can easily spot a Charina Sarte creation: playful colours, vibrant prints and fluid lines that evoke femininity and endless summers. Many do not know that behind each piece is an all-women team of skilled seamstresses from the Philippines. They also resonate as an ode to women: designed by a woman, proudly made for women, and made by women. Today, she is proud to announce that her line is now accessible in over 30 stores in the US, including Saks, as well as in Le Bon Marché in Paris, and online via Shopbop and Intermix. In a conversation, she gives us a glimpse into her creative process and what to look forward to this season.

When I have the time, I love watching shows like Parisian Agency or movies like Interview with the Vampire. For design inspiration, I turn to social media platforms like Instagram, and I also enjoy reading fashion and architectural magazines.

My latest collection shown in Paris this June is our resort 2022 collection. Expect a lot of beautiful batik prints bursting with colours. My favourite of the collection are these co-ords that are so perfect for the day and for lounging.

I only use sustainable cotton and linen, particularly hand-block prints from India, which I feel very strongly about because of how special the tradition behind it is. I believe in producing clothing [that are] not just good for people but also good for the planet.
