The biggest night in fashion certainly did not disappoint in delivering some shocking moments from A-listers
Of course, Met Gala and Karl Lagerfeld together ought to go down in fashion history as one to remember.
This year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, came with the dress code ‘in honour of Karl’. It was open for interpretation, and one of the most fun parts of fashion’s night of nights is watching A-listers ascend the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York wearing their own versions of the theme. As expected, celebrities and fashion icons delivered breathtaking looks, mostly in white and black, as an ode to Lagerfeld’s era of Chanel.

But what’s Met Gala without some shocking looks that render everyone speechless? Here, we list this year’s most outrageous outfits below.

Nothing is as dramatic as Jeremy Pope ascending the Metropolitan Museum of Art stairs to reveal a cape emblazoned with the visage of Karl Lagerfeld, reminiscent of Rihanna’s now-iconic 2015 Met Gala appearance wearing that yellow Gou Pei dress. The One Night In Miami actor wore an over 30-foot-long cape designed by Olivier Rousteing for Balmain.

Jared Leto

What better way of paying Karl Lagerfeld honour than dressing up in something he loved the most? In this case, Jared Leto took it in the most literal sense as he dressed in a whole-body costume (err... catsuit?) as the late designer's pet cat, Choupette. Leto's outside-the-box creativity and tenacity to execute these outlandish ideas have often landed him on various Met Gala lists, for better or worse.
Doja Cat

For her inaugural appearance on Met Gala's red carpet, Doja Cat chose to show up in full-face prosthetics to resemble Choupette. Partnered with an impeccable hooded Oscar de la Renta sequined gown, the Kiss Me More singer looked like a feline perfection.

Lil Nas X sparkled in another homage to Choupette. The pop star dressed in head-to-toe silver crystals with nothing but a silver Dior thong, chunky silver glitter platform boots, long silver acrylic nails and a pearl-embellished crystallised mask.

Janelle Monáe pulled off an elaborate costume transformation on the red carpet. The Glass Onion star and singer arrived dressed in a sculptural black-and-white Thom Browne tuxedo suit which was then taken off her to reveal a skin-bearing cage crinoline.
