Go inside the exclusive event at Pasir Panjang Power Station, attended by Fann Wong, Chantalle Ng and more celebrities
Louis Vuitton’s trunk show in Singapore was a big deal before it even happened. The French fashion brand had only ever staged a runway show here once before, and that was in 2021, when its presentation at the ArtScience Museum had to be dialled down by pandemic-related restrictions. That was not the case on March 1, when celebrity guests, VIP clients and members of the media congregated at the Pasir Panjang Power Station at the maison’s invitation.
This time, Louis Vuitton spared no extravagance: it projected its supersized LV logo on the building’s façade, set up not one but three photo walls inside for its glamorous guests, plied them with Armand de Brignac champagne before and after the fashion show, and set the sprawling space alight with rows of old-school lightbulbs.
That last detail, along with the red walls, tied the private event to the maison’s spring/summer 2023 women’s fashion show at the Louvre Palace in Paris, for which models walked through a “monster flower” set designed by French artist Philippe Parreno. Parreno’s fantastic installation was missed in Singapore, but not the bold designs of Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.

For the collection, the designer blew up the proportions of commonplace clothing details; zippers, buckles, buttons and studs were supersized, becoming the point of the garment itself, and not just the functional necessities holding it together. Volumes were expanded, too, particularly through leather baby doll dresses and flared halterneck which mirrored the look and feel of Louis Vuitton’s Noé bucket bag. At the Singapore trunk show, which featured an aptly diverse line-up of models, these striking ensembles were paraded on the runway with a single message: the bigger, the better.

There were exceptions to the rule. A miniature version of the Louis Vuitton family home in Asnières, France, was presented as a top-handle bag, tiny brick walls and all. It’s one of the many accessories that the maison’s clients will be clamouring for this season. Another standout is the Twist bag, which has been transformed with an even bigger “LV” logo lock hardware and chain. Ghesquière has also introduced the Monogram Clutch, which, while inspired by vintage purses and doctor’s bags, taps onto the early-aughts aesthetics that dominate fashion trends today.
The fashion spectacle continued at the post-show party, where local celebrity guests and Tatler friends like Susanna Kang, Dana Cheong and Fanty Soenardy mingled and danced to the electric set by DJ Ashley Lau. Fann Wong, Chantalle Ng, Fiona Xie and Iman Fandi flaunted looks from Louis Vuitton’s cruise 2023 collection—the crop tops with exaggerated shoulders proved popular—while Fandi’s brothers, Ikhsan and Ilhan, mixed things up with pieces from the maison’s collaboration with Yayoi Kusama.
