SOLÁ’s Mercury collection is designed with the modern man in mind

The term ‘SOLÁ’ translates to ‘women can stand alone.' Nonetheless, the shapewear brand’s founder, Kylie Verzosa wishes to extend that meaning to any gender. Launched earlier this year, Verzosa’s latest venture followed a simple mantra: to provide high-quality shapewear that lets anyone look their best, without sacrificing comfort.

To that end, she unveiled the Mercury collection—the brand’s first foray into menswear. “Ever since we started SOLÁ, we saw that there was a demand for it. We want to be an inclusive brand, so now not only women can wear shapewear, but men can too,” shares Verzosa.

Designed to be used post-workout, the Mercury Dusk collection features tight yet controlled compression at the torso, core and abdomen to increase blood circulation while relaxing sore muscles. Another key benefit is its ability to aid in posture control. “That’s one good comment we got. It makes you aware of your posture so you can correct it while allowing for better movement post-workout,” says Verzosa.

The fabric used is familiar, being similar to what we’ve seen from SOLÁ’s womenswear line—76 per cent nylon and 24 per cent elastane. The garments come in two colours, black and slate, and are available in three distinct styles. The Sculpting Boxer Shapewear shorts go up to the stomach area with strong compression at the thighs to aid in muscle recovery while keeping the crotch area light for comfort.

The Sculpting Short-Sleeved Shapewear Shirt offers light compression at the shoulders and back for easier movement and better posture, while the torso is tighter for stomach control. Finally, the Sculpting Sleeveless Shapewear Shirt provides the same benefits previously mentioned, but with a sleeveless design to match one’s personal preference.

Tailored to prioritise comfort without sacrificing style, all three of SOLÁ’s men’s sculpting shapewear can double as fashion statements—to be used either as an undershirt for button-up polos or as is. The Boxer Shapewear Shorts can also be used as underwear.

The collection is available in multiple sizes to cater to any body type. Its elasticity allows it to adapt to each user, eliminating the need to worry about outgrowing one’s clothes. “There aren’t much men’s shapewear out there, so we had to do a lot of trial and error with designing them. We wanted to make sure that it fits all-male body types. Modern masculinity doesn’t mean one thing. We hope that we could be the tool that allows you to express who you are,” says Verzosa.
