In a look that paid homage to one of his favourite musicians, the late and great Michael Jackson, JJ Lin wore a heavily embellished military jacket with an avant-garde twist for his Timeline World Tour concert in Nanjing, China. While one shoulder sported a typical fringed epaulette, the other featured an upturned padded shoulder that Rick Owens would certainly approve of. Lin was further armoured in a studded harness and knee-high boots with crystal detailing.

Not one to shy away from unconventional silhouettes, JJ Lin suited up in a sweeping white coat that seemed to come out of The Matrix. He cut a commanding figure in the artistic design, which featured micro pleats, cracked lines, and dripping paint towards the end. From a slit on the side of the coat, fans could also see a hint of shine from Lin’s metallic purple pants—another bold fashion choice.

Even when wearing suits, JJ Lin’s choices are are anything but boring. Performing at the 2020 Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan, the singer looked angelic in a full look from Louis Vuitton’s Monogram Clouds collection for fall/winter 2020. Designed by Virgil Abloh, the outfit was inspired by the idea of heaven on earth. Lin’s fans will certainly agree that the suit is made for him.

JJ Lin stood out like a star at a concert in Beijing by wearing one of his favourite colours: purple. Seemingly channeling Prince and David Bowie, the singer sparkled in a sequin cropped jacket that featured outlined lapels. If that wasn’t dramatic enough, Lin completed his glamorous get-up with a shirt embellished with metallic details.

In 2019, JJ Lin continued to experiment with his on-stage style by taking on a futuristic bent for a Valentine’s Day concert in Taiwan. The sci-fi fan turned into a cyborg with a metallic outfit featuring “exposed” wires and a robotic arm. He also threw on a glittering harness (perhaps he was inspired by Timothee Chalamet’s 2019 Golden Globes look?) and a Margiela-inspired embellished headpiece.

In the ultimate display of his showmanship, JJ Lin practically transformed into a butterfly when performing his hit ballad, A Thousand Years Later. While suspended in the air, Lin appears in a wired cocoon that he unwraps to reveal his butterfly wings, resulting in one of the most dramatic outfit changes ever seen on stage.
