From music to fashion, James Reid’s multi-faceted journey with Gucci is about finding inspiration in the intersection of identity and style

The impact and allure of a well-crafted ensemble knows no bounds. Whether it’s a sharply tailored suit, a haute couture gown or a simple jeans and cotton T-shirt, they have the transformative ability to alter the image of their wearer while reflecting their psyche.

James Reid views his fashion this way. He states, “It’s a voyage into possibilities. It’s about discovering yourself, your tastes and your identity.” For the actor and singer, who made his maiden appearance at Milan Fashion Week this year, fashion is a means of self-realisation and managing the intricacies of who he is, a philosophy that permeates every aspect of his life. “I’ve learnt to see myself as who I’m coming to be,” Reid notes, using fashion as a tool to continually discover himself. From his choices in streetwear to his dashing ensembles at industry events, all his outfits capture the vibrancy of his own journey of personal development.

Naturally, Reid intertwines his passion for fashion with his musical pursuits. “Fashion is music to my eyes and music is fashion to my ears,” he says, adding that his ventures in music reflects his approach to style. His inspiration particularly flourishes during visits to fashion capitals. “Going to Milan and Paris, centres of the fashion world, is always eye-opening. The people there—who dare to be unique, to be different and to be themselves—inspire me immensely.”

He observes that individuals who experiment and express themselves through their attire often forge a deeper connection with their authentic selves and gain confidence. In his case, he notes a recurring theme in his choices: “I’ve gone through streetwear, athletic wear and various styles, but I always seem to come back to retro. Something is exciting about blending nostalgic elements with modern pieces.”

Through such discoveries, Reid’s take on fashion echoes the core of Gucci’s collection for men, which encourages individuals to create their own stories through vibrant colours, textures and patterns. He has especially found various ways to express himself through travel, ever accompanied by the gorgeously crafted bags of Gucci’s Valigeria collection.

For Reid, packing for a trip is more than just selecting outfits—it’s an opportunity to assemble pieces that reflect the spirit of the destination. Whether it may be relaxing on a beach, hiking in the mountains or attending Fashion Week, each setting offers a chance to reinvent and refine his taste.

Reid’s exploration of aesthetics showcases the transformative power of clothing. He inspires others to discover their unique flair, encouraging them to, “Go with the flow and trends… Eventually, the more you know yourself, the more comfortable you are with yourself; then you’ll start to pick things from trends to match you instead”. By finding confidence in his journey towards self-expression, he motivates others to delve into and embrace their own identities.
