This homegrown label is the brainchild of Oniatta Effendi, who is committed to preserving and reinventing the Indonesian art of batik. This year, the label has launched the Senandung 1974 collection, which marries traditional silhouettes in Malay fashion with beautiful, breezy batik fabrics waxed by hand.
A standout is the label’s first Baju Kurong Telok Blangah, a collarless style that was worn by Malay women in the past. Effendi hasn’t strayed from the classic silhouette, and the garment’s contrasting neckline has also been lovingly embroidered by hand.
