Baju By Oniatta

This homegrown label is the brainchild of Oniatta Effendi, who is committed to preserving and reinventing the Indonesian art of batik. This year, the label has launched the Senandung 1974 collection, which marries traditional silhouettes in Malay fashion with beautiful, breezy batik fabrics waxed by hand.

A standout is the label’s first Baju Kurong Telok Blangah, a collarless style that was worn by Malay women in the past. Effendi hasn’t strayed from the classic silhouette, and the garment’s contrasting neckline has also been lovingly embroidered by hand.

Local brand Ozel is yet another batik specialist. Its new Raya collection comprises effortless styles for men and women, each crafted from handprinted cotton batik in neutral hues like beige and sky blue.

For couples, the brand offers a collarless Alam Telok Belangah Top for him, and a matching Alam Kurung for her. Ladies can also opt for the Daun Kebaya Panjang set, which layers a long, elegant kebaya over a bright patterned dress.

Live out your floral fantasies with local modestwear label Zalia’s extensive array of long-sleeved dresses and skirt sets. Its Raya 2022 collection is delightfully romantic, featuring details like peplums, puff sleeves, embroidery and pretty pastel hues that are reminiscent of the Regency-era ensembles seen on Bridgerton. We recommend styling your favourite Zalia pieces like the stars of the Netflix show with plenty of mesmerising jewels.

Adrianna Yariqa

This Muslim-owned fashion label celebrates Malay garments in all its forms, and its AYLebaran2022 collection aptly features an array of men’s and women’s styles like dresses, kurtas, kurungs and more.

The pieces shine in silky, sateen fabric adorned with contemporary prints. There are matching ensembles for the whole family, too—pick from soft hues like light blue, minty green and powder pink.

This year, Lúbna’s festive offerings take on a very cottagecore bent with its use of ruffles, smocking details, and airy fabrics in gingham and floral patterns. The local Muslim-owned label is also known for its inclusive sizing, so you’ll find plenty of similarly delightful dresses and skirt sets in plus sizes.
