With its burst of colours, the spring/summer 2022 collection of the luxury fashion house Fendi is definitely a visual experience

Fendi begins the year by embracing the splendour of life. The colour palette for both women and men’s collections exude elegance and vibrance that’s perfect for perking up the spirits into welcoming a brighter year. The women’s spring/summer 2022 collection celebrates women empowerment with an explosion of bright colours designed by the fashion designer Kim Jones.

The campaign, creatively directed by Ronnie Cooke Newhouse and Karl Bolande, features five stunning models—Vittoria Ceretti, Yilan Hua, Barbara Valente, Rianne Van Rompaey and Anok Yai—who are all photographed in a backdrop of white fading to blue or featuring solid red cloud-like shapes. This playful concept is inspired by a logo hand-sketched by Antonio Lopez, a visionary fashion illustrator. It shows the modern perspective on disco-age glamour and showcases the diverse and powerful femininity that Fendi often highlights.

The signature looks in the campaign share a common vision, drawn from The Estate of Antonio Lopez and Juan Ramos, a source for Antonio Lopez and his partner in life and art Juan Ramos’s work and legacy: elegant abstractions of Lopez’s brushstroke and his drawings appear on shirting and leather intarsia, while that hand-written Fendi logo appears on candy coloured diagonal stripes. The bags serve as the canvas for the artist’s graphic artwork, and soon, many can carry around this piece of art wherever they go.

The men’s spring/summer 2022 collection, which was designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi, artistic director of accessories and menswear, radiates masculine flair. It projects lightness and ease using soft colours, recalling spring flora and transient skies.

The collection comes in several themes. The Fendi Earth topographic print, for one, is made up of abstract contoured motifs across linen silk suiting, jacquard denim and even plush crochet tees Fendi Land has a cartographic drawing of the map of Rome with freehand FF logos. The Fendiness backpack features the Maison’s utility buckle and crossbody style, with the iconic Selleria macro stitches as seen on the Peekaboo bags.

We see the collection come alive in the campaign photographs and videos shot under the direction of Italian artist Nico Vascellar in Rome, on the rooftop of the Fendi Headquarters at Palazzo della Civiltà Italian.

The models donning signature looks are photographed walking and standing across a cloudy Roman sky, which changes throughout the day. Vascellar also uses mirrors to give the viewers a glimpse of the models from multiple points of view. It is an enthralling portrayal of the brand’s concept—a playful escape from reality as it shows the perspective of the world from above.

The Fendi universe is a world of colours, luxury and timeless style that you may just be lured into making it your own.
