La Prairie continues to make strides in converging art and science to create an unprecedented skincare line

Why do we strive for things like art and beauty? This question has been pondered over for centuries, with debates tracing back to the time of philosophers like Plato and Aristotle, when art had merely been perceived as mimetic, an imitation of nature perpetually incomparable to the beauty of real life. What's become clear as centuries have passed, however, is that beauty is inherent in art, and art in turn is essential in life. As Fyodor Dostoevsky once wrote: “Art is as much a need for humanity as eating and drinking. The need for beauty and for creations that embody it is inseparable from humanity and without it man perhaps might not want to live on earth.”

This pursuit of art and timeless beauty is most evidently inseparable from the luxury Swiss skincare house La Prairie, which has elevated science to art since its inception. Having established a partnership with contemporary art fair Art Basel Miami Beach since 2017, La Prairie once again explores this connection of art, beauty, and science by commissioning a poetic and feminine performance by Taiwanese dancer and artist Wen-Chi Su as the brand unveils its most recent addition to the exquisite White Caviar Collection, the White Caviar Essence Extraordinaire.

The origins of the White Caviar Collection began in Montreux, where La Prairie has long witnessed the unique encounter of light and water from when snow melts and trickles down from the highest Swiss peaks, making its way to the lakes below where light delicately dances and glimmers on the surface. It’s a magical experience—one the scientists at La Prairie have sought to recreate on the skin through uncovering paths to luminosity. The result is a luxurious formula that increases hydration, plumps and firms up the look of the skin with the presence of collagen-supporting ingredients, and gently exfoliates it to create a smooth, light-reflecting finish.

Translating this luminosity into a physical and aesthetic form, La Prairie pursues a creative new venture and enriches the paradigm with which they convey their brand through a live performance piece from choreographer and new media artist Wen-Chi Su on the sands Art Basel Miami Beach. In the dance titled Moving Towards The Horizon, Su captures the synergy of art and science in kinetic movement, adding dimensions of fluidity and femininity with every slow, delicate step. The magnetic performance is an enchanting reflection of light and water, expressing their nature of timelessness and sensoriality—both of which are qualities of the White Caviar Collection.

The collection features a decadent range of skincare essentials, which includes the White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion, a serum made to help the skin achieve a luminous finish by targeting age spots, redness, and greyness, and the White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire, which illuminates the skin as if by a flattering light and smooths it gently over the entire face. The new White Caviar Essence Extraordinaire is a transformative gel-to-water solution that glides on the skin with a refreshing touch and protects it from pollution and oxidative stress.

Thanks to innovative technology, the White Caviar Essence Extraordinaire encapsulates the most potent illuminating molecule, Lumidose, an inhibitor of human tyrosinase (the enzyme responsible for the formation of melanin) known to fade age spots more potently and faster than any other ingredient in over 15 years of research. Together with this patented molecule, the White Caviar Essence Extraordinaire contains signature Swiss caviar ingredients and is infused with La Prairie’s Exclusive Cellular Complex, an active ingredient that uses cutting-edge biotechnological research to give new life and energy back to the skin.

Combining technology and science with an uncompromising approach to beauty, and with its latest commission of Su, La Prairie transforms the art of skincare into an act of contemporary artistry. The brand further cements its support for women artists of different cultures, perspectives, and crafts, and we eagerly await seeing more artistic collaborations in the future.

La Prairie’s White Caviar Essence Extraordinaire will be available in stores and online at Rustan’s The Beauty Source starting March 2022. For more information on the complete collection, click here.
