While Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy is woven into the history of Chanel, there is another French luxury brand on which the fashion designer had left his mark: Chloé. That oft-overlooked part of Lagerfeld’s fashion career is now explored in the new travelling exhibition, The Chloé by Karl Lagerfeld Exhibition, which has opened exclusively at the Chloé store in Marina Bay Sands—the only stop in Southeast Asia.

The exhibition shines a spotlight on Lagerfeld’s many contributions to Chloé across his 25-year tenure (from 1963 to 1983, and then from 1992 to 1997). The young designer was hired by Chloé founder Gaby Aghion, and would soon make waves in the fashion industry with his bold, bohemian designs that redefined the brand’s vision of femininity. Some of Lagerfeld’s archival designs and sketches for Chloé will be on display at the exhibition for fans to get their fashion history fix.

Lagerfeld’s lasting influence will also be emphasised through a showcase of custom Chloé dresses made by the brand’s last appointed creative director, Gabriela Hearst, for the 2023 Met Gala dedicated to Lagerfeld. These looks are inspired by Lagerfeld’s creations for Chloe’s spring/summer 1983 collection, and include the Aurélien dress featuring a guitar motif covered in sequins, as well as the Angkor cocktail dress that is embroidered with beads and glass tubes and feature cut-outs on both sides of the waist. Hearst’s reinterpretations were worn on the Met Gala red carpet by the likes of Hollywood actresses Olivia Wilde, Vanessa Kirby and Euphoria star Maude Apatow.

The Chloé by Karl Lagerfeld Exhibition is on display from July 28 to July 30 in Singapore, before it will travel to Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing in September and, later on, Tokyo.
