Birkenstock sandals are a fashion staple. Recently held at The Gallery in Greenbelt 5, the Hourglass Exhibition welcomed avid Birkenstock patrons, media partners, and members of Manila-based German social groups to a showcase of the cult favourite’s dynamic history. Guests marvelled at the brand’s first-ever shoe models in all their timeless beauty, as well as some of its archival tools representative of the last two centuries.

Joining these alluring displays were pieces from an incredible Birkenstock collaboration with Maison Valentino, plus an exclusive preview of an upcoming collection that will be available in a few months. Rustic yet modern at once, this innovative footwear line—known as the Zürich model—combines the stability of a closed-toe shoe with the lightness of a sandal.
As exciting as these all were, they weren’t all the fun in store for guests. One of the unmistakable highlights of the event was the presence of a leather personalisation booth, which allowed everyone to customise an exclusive leather keychain with their initials. In addition, the ‘Find Your Fit’ wall underlined the importance of choosing shoes that offer the right fit, enabling attendees to discover their most appropriate shoe size for optimal wear.

Beyond serving as an enlightening journey through time, the Hourglass Exhibition was ultimately a reminder of the purpose at the heart of Birkenstock since time immemorial. For nearly 250 years, the German label has remained firm and dedicated to producing footwear that allows people to walk as nature intended, imparting the value of foot health and proper care to boot.
