Cover The Philippines celebrates Asia’s Most Stylish honourees 2023

The Philippine honourees of Asia’s Most Stylish 2023 enjoyed a delightful shopping party at one of the country’s top luxury malls

Tatler Asia defines style as something that is both effortless and boundary-breaking. It is not a trend but a mastery of self-representation. Asia’s Most Stylish is Tatler’s annual list of sartorial tastemakers who embody these exact definitions. Last September 13, Tatler Philippines celebrated its annual list with a party. The event's co-presenter, Ayala Malls and Greenbelt, provided the event with a venue, allowing guests to gather at The Gallery in Greenbelt 5. As most will acknowledge, Greenbelt is located at the heart of our country's capital and is also the go-to when it comes to shopping and fashion.

With the presence of nine out of ten honourees—eight of whom were decked in jewellery from our gold sponsor, Tiffany & Co.—the Asia’s Most Stylish launch night became one to remember as society guests flocked to the beloved luxury mall. Stylists and fashion designers such as Ria Prieto and Marga Nograles toasted the night away with businessmen Atom Henares, editor Arnel Patawaran and more; all enjoyed free-flowing drinks and canapes by Margarita Forés’ Lusso.

As the program started, Tatler Philippines’ Managing Director, Irene Martel Francisco greeted the guests and introduced Asia’s Most Stylish. “The list is made up of the style vanguards who express distinctive individuality,” she said. “They are the tastemakers who are never afraid to break the rules and push fashion to its limits.”

Afterwards, Mariana Zobel de Ayala, Ayala Land Board Member, welcomed those present in a video message. “Style is a universal language that enables self-expression and empowerment,” she acknowledged. “I look forward to a future where everyone feels comfortable to bring their best self forward, where diversity and self-expression are celebrated. Fashion and style create a platform for this to continue to become a reality.”

After her warm opening remarks, Stephanie Zubiri and Tim Yap—both honourees of Asia’s Most Stylish in past years themselves—welcomed guests with witty banter, and introduced our honourees onstage. Of course, our September 2023 cover girl, Anne Curtis—who wore a white minidress with puff sleeves and a long braid—went up onstage to the applause of those around her.

While Jericho Rosales, one of the 2023 honourees was out of the country, the other eight were fortunately in attendance. Kathy Yap-Huang, in a neon pink Alex Perry dress and carrying an electric blue Alexander Wang clutch, came up onstage to speak on the versatility of her style. While this mother and entrepreneur knows how to dress to the nines, she’s also not one to shy away from casual styles and joked about how often she wears her beloved Birkenstocks.

Emmeline Aglipay Villar, in a cream Ivarluski Aseron dress with a unique skirt detail, attended the event with her husband, Senator Mark Villar, who applauded loudly for his wife’s well-deserved recognition. She was followed by Maica Salud Tady, co-founder of Vestido, who wore an immaculate blazer over a black rhinestone-studded dress. Advocating for re-wear, the young stylist thanked the crowd for their support and excitedly spoke of the strides Vestido has taken to help people embrace the concept.

Much like Tady, Rissa Mananquil Trillo, another 2023 honouree, is an advocate for sustainable fashion. In a black Rajo Laurel gown, she walked up onstage and reminded everyone that fashion was not meant to be single-use. Host, Tim Yap, even recalled two instances when Trillo even re-wore and restyled her wedding dress!

Designer Patty Ang, who brought her husband and daughter to the event, came in a crisp black blazer and tights. A fan favourite of many, the designer is known for both her namesake atelier, her athleisure studio Patton, and her new cafe, Patton on the Go (which was located only a few meters from the venue that night).

Kifu Augousti, herself a designer, came in head to toe Miu Miu. Having grown up in a family of creatives, she has become acquainted with many of those in the fashion industry and has in her closet a variety of bespoke gowns and pieces. All three ladies wore Tiffany & Co. to complement their ensembles.

Mond Gutierrez, who arrived at the venue with Anne Curtis, was also recognised by the crowd. Wearing a casual button-down by Louis Vuitton paired with jewellery from Tiffany & Co., he went up on stage and spoke on how style has shaped him. Lastly, LA Aguinaldo, wearing his favourite brand, Louis Vuitton, accepted the honour in person; his mother and his significant other were cheering in the crowd.

After a quick group photo with both Yap and Zubiri, the honourees were free to mingle and enjoy the festivities with a DJ. Others went around the mall and embarked on an exciting shopping spree, happily enjoying the spirit of this year’s Asia’s Most Stylish.
