From a classic menswear enthusiast to Manila’s coolest sexagenarian and more, the Asia’s Most Stylish 2022 is a well-curated list of who’s who in the local fashion scene

Bea Soriano Dee

Tatler Asia

Co-founder, Sunnies Studios

This statuesque, gorgeous businesswoman and mother has realised how her style has evolved through the years. “My philosophy in buying pieces is that clothes worn daily need to be the ones I invest in the most,” she shares. Though she’s a fan of classic pieces, Dee is never one to pass up on fun items or accessories. A self-proclaimed lover of Tom Ford’s Nineties Gucci era, Dee also admits to investing in menswear-inspired pieces. “But these days, ever since I had a daughter, I always wonder: ‘Will she like this piece when she’s older? Will it age well?’ If I appreciated the small details about how clothes or accessories were made in my youth, then half my closet would still be with me until now.”

AJ Dee

Tatler Asia

Entertainer

Actor, athlete, and classic menswear enthusiast—these are just a few of the titles that Dee proudly answers to. Usually spotted in a navy sports jacket, a pair of grey trousers, and an oxford shirt and loafers, Dee is the quintessential Filipino debonair. His charm emanates from a sense of style that is timeless yet distinct, an interpretation of menswear that is both dashing and cosmopolitan. “Dressing up daily is like an art for me,” he says. “What I wear for the day shows my mood, feelings and inspirations. It gives me joy going to work.”

Scarlet Snow Belo

Tatler Asia

Social media celebrity

At only 7, Scarlet Snow is already incredibly comfortable in her manner of dressing. Not surprising, though, that this confidence stems from her fashionable parents: Drs Hayden Kho Jnr and Vicki Belo. “I’m fond of the brands Mummy likes,” the younger Belo reveals. “Sometimes, she takes dresses she doesn’t wear anymore and has them altered to fit me.” Never caught without her trusty denim jacket, Scarlet describes her style as “girly and comfortable”—with a healthy dose of happy colours and floral prints in her wardrobe.

Tessie Singson

Tatler Asia

Fashion enthusiast

Known for the über-cool looks she posts on her Instagram account @lolaandrogynous, Singson embodies a minimalist yet distinctive style reminiscent of Japanese aesthetes. “I love. . . Kawakubo, Issey, and Yohji [especially] because they fit my style,” the 69-year-old fashionista says. Though Singson is effortless in her sartorial choices, she admits that she has made her fair share of fashion faux pas in the past. “No fashion regrets [however]”, she reveals, “only lessons learnt. Because who I am today is the result of my fashion choices and mistakes.” These days you’d likely see her around the city emanating confidence in her signature white shirt, black dress and oversized jacket.

Steven Tan

Tatler Asia

President, SM Supermalls

As president of SM Supermalls, Tan leads a fast-paced lifestyle— and it reflects in both his style and the way he dresses. Always on the go, Tan is prepared to face his day with a crease-free shirt, well-tailored pants, and a coat on the ready. “Just stash [them all] in my Birkin overnight and voila, good and ready for action,” he comments. Describing his style as “quiet luxury”, Tan prioritises quality and design over anything else. “High-low is my usual practice. I’d sometimes pair a designer piece with a Uniqlo shirt. I don’t really take fashion too seriously,” he says. “I wear clothes that express my mood at the current moment.”

Sofia Andres

Tatler Asia

Actor

With her sultry eyes and graceful physique, Andres was born to be a standout. Like her personality, her style usually calls for plenty of colours. “[Colours] make the people around me super happy, so it’s a win-win.” A versatile dresser, Andres is never afraid to take a risk in her wardrobe and favours international designers Valentino, Fendi and Dior. “[Expressing myself through fashion is like] expressing love to myself. I’m dressing up for myself to make me feel confident and free.”

David Guison

Tatler Asia

Digital content creator

With his effusive personality, David Guison oozes charisma. The content creator describes his aesthetic as “a mix of classic and trendy, dressy and comfy”. Never one to overlook his choices, Guison points to a mix of thrift stores and designer brands as his usual shopping haunts. “I tend to mix high and low brands—some pieces I get from a thrift store, some items I would get from Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Jacquemus,” he shares. For the young influencer, fashion is something that inspires him daily. “Dressing up sets my mood for the day. It motivates me to be my best self.”

Mandy de la Rama

Tatler Asia

Fashion designer

Tatler Asia's Most Stylish hall-of-famer 2022 is a fashion designer known for her unique sartorial choices, which earned her the title of Most Stylish Lady at the Philippine Tatler Ball in 2005.

Consistent in de la Rama’s fashion philosophy is her easy, straightforward style. She dresses well but also comfortably, revealing that her biggest fashion regret is every single time she’s ever worn painful shoes.

Embodying the idea that confidence is key, de la Rama is known to be happiest in a bikini. “After all, less is more,” she laughs. Unsurprisingly, this lines up with her style aesthetic of “no-fuss and functional”. She says, “Personally, fashion at the end of the day is just work for me. However, if I am able to make someone feel good and confident when wearing something of mine—and especially when sharing the moment with me—the happiness I feel is unparalleled.”

Jasmine Curtis-Smith

Tatler Asia

Actor

A perk of her career is that it allows the actress to explore different aspects of her style. She’s known to experiment with vintage clothes, boho and grunge-inspired pieces, and normcore fashion.
“I never really stick to one aesthetic, probably because of my job. I get to invest in pieces for my characters, and sometimes that introduces me to a new style,” Curtis-Smith explains. Not one to merely follow the trends, her best sartorial advice would be to pick pieces that are true to oneself. “Fashion is there to guide and help us define our styles, so invest in pieces that are timeless to your style and [that you] will keep for a long time!”
