The star-studded cast of this Agatha Christie adaptation includes Gal Gadot, Kenneth Branagh, Emma Mackey, Armie Hammer, Letitia Wright and Ali Fazal, among others, all of whom pull off the period costumes in style. Aside from 1930s sensibilities and silhouettes prevalent in the film, we’ve identified six key style tips to incorporate into your everyday looks:

1. Embrace pastels

When done well, pastels transcend all seasons and genders. Peach, powder blue and pale yellow not only add a subtle hint of colour, but also a softness to an outfit, especially when paired with neutral shades.

Whether it’s a jacket, blouse or a small accessory, a pastel piece will overall brighten an ensemble for any daytime outing in Egypt, or elsewhere.

2. Smart casual, always

The art of smart casual is to look dressed up, but never overly so. It’s about nailing the combination of being comfortable enough to walk through nature, but also being appropriately clothed to have lunch at a nice spot afterwards.

The characters in Death on the Nile have got that down pat and are always look chic whether they’re enjoying tea or boarding a speedboat.

3. Don’t forget a hat

While serving the practical purpose of shading you from the sun, hats were a must to be in the ’30s, and a variety were worn by the characters in the film. Hats in general are making a comeback this year, so it’s all about finding one to suit your look.

To add a touch of vintage flair, men can opt for fedoras to smarten up a casual white shirt, whereas women can turn to cartwheel hats and berets with feminine ensembles.

4. Belts are your best friend

Belts are a quick way to accessorise and tie together individual pieces together in an outfit. Linette Rideway-Doyle (Gal Gadot) is the blueprint of elegance—her very simple blouse and skirt look complete thick black belt, and she doesn’t need more than a complementary blush handbag.

Her husband, Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer) has kicked it up a notch, using what appears to be a patterned scarf as a belt and making his white shirt and beige slacks look much cooler.

5. Glamorous gowns

One should dress well to celebrate an occasion, but the women in the film cruising down the Nile dialled up the glamour to Old Hollywood heights.

Jewel tones, sparkly jewels and red lips galore were seen on many, if not all, of the women in the party and there’s no reason not to indulge in that same level of dress, even if it's just for one night.

6. Extra-large accessories

Of course not everyone has an enormous yellow Tiffany diamond necklace laying around, but that’s not to say you can’t emulate a similar look with statement gems and select accessories.

A standout piece of jewellery can go a long way to elevate an evening look, so whether it’s a necklace, earrings or a ring, select one item and go big.
