Having travelled the world, hanging his hat for weeks or years at a time, renowned French perfumer Francis Kurkdjian recognises how large metropolises unequivocally share a number of notable characteristics. There’s an effervescence around them, a creative force that births artists and success stories, as well as a thrilling, awe-inspiring effect that deems anything possible. Through his eponymous Maison founded in 2009, Kurkdjian attempts to capture this essence while extracting a city’s singularity, transforming it all into an olfactory wardrobe for every day.
To evoke the complex yet profoundly beautiful city of New York, Kurkdjian’s self-proclaimed home away from home, the master perfumer’s latest brainchild is a luminous and addictive Eau de Parfum that is sure to spark inspired living. “There is something about big cities that sweeps over you, electrifies you, elevates you,” he relayed. “I translated that communicative energy, that life pulsating in unison, into a musky, floral, and urban fragrance that I named 724, for 24 hours of scented living, seven days a week.”
724 unveils a composition of overlapping textures in a graciously flowing rhythm. In the top notes, Italian bergamot and aldehydes with a sophisticated, slightly metallic facet form a fresh and energising accord, reminiscent of daybreak. At the heart of this vertical architecture, an airy, floral soul is conveyed by a bouquet of jasmine absolute, mock orange, and sweet pea. Lastly, in the base, the scent’s radiant aura surrenders to an enveloping sensation of depth and urbanity, thanks to the congruence of sandalwood and white musk.

The fragrance’s alluring metropolitan character is only heightened by the elegant aesthetic of its rectangular glass casing, which is topped off with a gleaming perfume cap in dashing gold. Further influenced by the city’s architectural landscape, the graphic of the 724 Eau de Parfum beams in a unique shade of blue that subtly marries the cement grey hue of staggering buildings with the sharp colour of modish denim. Kurkdjian calls the tone “urban blue” and combines this with a chiselled typeface of the fragrance’s name as an ode to digital printing in the modern era.
