Scroll to read what we thought of the latest formulations of the Hydra Hyaluronic Acid serum, moisturiser and mask

Over the last month, Tatler tried the latest generation of Sothys’ Hydra Hyaluronic Acid range, composed of the Intensive Hydrating Serum, Hydra-Plumping Mask and two versions of the Hydrating Youth Cream. The new formulation of this line, first introduced in 1973, combines four hyaluronic acids and two patented active ingredients, 1055 Boletus Extract and Organic Rowan Berry Peptides.

It promises to hydrate, soothe, shield and heal moisture barriers. Does it deliver? Let's find out.

Hydra Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Hydrating Serum

Sothys’ latest formulation of its Intensive Hydrating Serum retails at a steep RM560 per 50ml bottle but it is a justifiable beauty investment with prices comparable to, if not competitive with, other reputable beauty brands such as Dr Barbara Sturm, Clarins, Skinceuticals, Dr Dennis Gross, and more.

Suitable for sensitive skin, its potent formula delivers instant hydration with visible results of smoother, plumper skin in just a few days. It is particularly helpful for skin prone to acne—even acting to calm any pain or redness. The texture is weightless, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and prepped for the next layers of moisturiser, sunscreen and make-up.

We had the opportunity to try out the two different textures of the Sothys Hydra Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Youth Cream: satin and velvet. The satin moisturiser is formulated for normal to dry skin but in Malaysia’s humidity, it can be too rich, leaving an uncomfortable feeling throughout the day.

For me, I was able to fully enjoy the benefits and texture when incorporating it into my evening beauty routine. It was also ideal for my recent travels to Europe, where it was the perfect layer to protect from winds, pollution and more, while keeping the skin feeling hydrated throughout the day.

Even with normal to dry skin, I found the velvet texture to be much more suitable for daily use here. That said, the intense potency of the moisturisers may be a cause of concern for those with sensitive and acne-prone skin, especially when layered with the equally strong serum. It may be worth taking the time to understand your preferences and skin needs, and review your existing beauty routine ahead of your purchase.
