The trend has been spotted on celebrities and the runway

As many will remember, this hairstyle was reserved for the biggest heartthrobs in everyone’s favourite ‘90s boy band, from N'Sync’s Justin Timberlake to Westlife’s Brian McFadden and Backstreet Boy’s Nick Carter. It dipped in popularity as emo-style long bangs and dark, spiky hair usurped the throne, and frosted tips became associated with TV personality and founder of Flavortown Kitchen Guy Fieri.

That should have been the end of the story but young millennials and Gen Z are spearheading the revival of nostalgic trends on TikTok and Instagram. For better or for worse, frosted tips are back.

It is the inevitable result of this summer's biggest celebrity hair trend—blonde buzz cuts—and their subsequent refusal to touch up their roots as their hair grows out. Case in point: Award-winning Colombian musician and Versace ambassador Maluma debuted his new look at the end of the summer.

Another celebrity style icon, Gossip Girl’s Evan Mock turned up at Rick Owens’ spring/summer '23 show in Paris with blonde frosted tips and has not returned to his favourite pink and blue buzz cuts.

But it's not just these It men driving the trend forward; it has a stamp of approval from the fashion industry as well. Loewe, Neil Barrett, Y/Project and Doublet were among the high-profile labels which sent their models down the spring 2023 catwalks in this Y2K trend. So it would seem that, love it or hate it, you will be seeing frosted tips everywhere this season.
