In an exclusive interview with Hermès Beauty creative director Gregoris Pyrpylis, we dive deeper into this new chapter of Rouge Hermès with Rouge Brillant Silky—a collection of 14 lipsticks that offer a glossy, high-shine finish
Five years ago, in the spring of 2020, Hermès made its debut in beauty with Rouge Hermès, a collection of lipsticks that signified more than just a bold expansion into cosmetics—it was a statement of craftsmanship and artistry. In the years since, the maison has continued to expand its cosmetics repertoire with new launches across different makeup categories. Now, in 2025, the brand reaffirms its place in beauty halls all over the world with the launch of the Rouge Brillant Silky lipstick collection. This moment holds particular significance for Gregoris Pyrpylis, the creative director of Hermès Beauty since 2022.
Founded in 1837 as a harness workshop, Hermès has become a global symbol of luxury, known for its exceptional leather goods and iconic silk scarves. With its foray into beauty, the maison applies the same meticulous artistry that defines its leather and silk, transforming cosmetics into objects of desire that go beyond adornment. More than a means of enhancing one’s appearance, Hermès Beauty revolves around the philosophy that makeup is also an expression of individuality.

Above The texture of each Rouge Brillant Silky lipstick leaves a light and comfortable film that melts softly on the lips.
The Rouge Brillant Silky collection builds on this foundation. Drawing inspiration from nature, Pyrpylis created shades that adapt beautifully to the lips, allowing wearers to customise their look. In a virtual interview with Tatler Singapore, Pyrpylis explains: “When we started creating this new collection ... I wanted to express Rouge Hermès through new colours because we have this very specific texture that has a very specific degree of translucence.” The lipstick delivers a lightweight colour with an intensely glossy finish. “If you add a bit more, you can achieve more and obtain more opacity for the lip payoff,” he notes.
The elegantly designed lipstick case by Pierre Hardy, creative director of Hermès Beauty objects, features an elongated and slanted shape—an aesthetic flourish that also facilitates intuitive application. Pyrpylis emphasises that this design guides the user’s hand: “It will allow you to apply it in a very free and playful way, but also a controlled way. The idea of having the elongated part is because it distinguishes the objects from the previous collection. We have a taller, thinner and slanted tip and it will allow us to guide the lips.”

Composed of 85 per cent natural ingredients, the Rouge Brillant Silky is a reflection of the maison’s dedication to both performance and environmental responsibility. “We can achieve this beautiful high shine finish thanks to the plant oils and butter and, of course, we integrated into the formula other strong active ingredients that will take care of your lips while wearing it,” Pyrpylis says. “So actually, the more you apply your lipstick, the more you take care of the lips.”
Among the collection’s standout shades are Brun d’Ambre, a warm amber that illuminates various skin tones, and the Rouge H (83), a versatile muted red that adapts beautifully to different complexions. Pyrpylis anticipates that these colours will resonate particularly well across diverse markets: “I think Brun d’Ambre is going to be a big hit because it’s the first time that we express ourselves through such a warm amber tone ... it looks beautiful on very pale skin, but also on dark complexion.”

The olfactory experience is another highlight of Rouge Brillant Silky. Crafted by Christine Nagel, the maison’s perfumer, the fragrance features soft notes of arnica, sandalwood, and candied angelica flower—creating an inviting sensory experience without overwhelming the wearer. This subtle scent elevates the overall experience of using Rouge Brillant Silky into a multisensory indulgence, where it is designed to feel as exquisite as it looks on the lips.
In addition, Pyrpylis places great importance on sustainability within this collection and believes luxury should not come at the expense of environmental responsibility.
“For me, sustainability starts from purely using materials that are of high quality,” he asserts. The lipstick case is designed to be refillable, allowing consumers to enjoy their favourite shades without contributing to waste.
“What is important to know is that we continued creating a refillable object,” he adds. This thoughtful design aligns perfectly with the maison’s longstanding tradition of creating timeless pieces that age gracefully—much like their iconic leather goods.

CELEBRATING IDENTITY
As Pyrpylis reflects on his journey with Hermès Beauty, he views the new collection as both an extens of the original Rouge Hermès line and a new chapter in his creative narrative. “Creating our Rouge Brillant Silky is taking the moment to talk about … expression through the lips,” he shares proudly. “I joined Hermès after the launch of Rouge Hermès so this is my first lipstick for Hermès. It’s very personal for me as well [because] it’s something that I worked on from A to Z. Even though I love the Rouge Hermès of 2020, my heart is part of this new creation.”
For Pyrpylis, each shade tells a story of a narrative woven from personal experiences and artistic inspirations. He approaches new collections with “ears and eyes open”, attuned to the specific needs and preferences of the discerning Hermès clientele.
With Rouge Brillant Silky, Hermès Beauty ushers in a new era—one that invites the wearer to embrace individuality through colour with every swipe. With Pyrpylis at the helm, we can expect the house’s journey into beauty to continue evolving in ways that are as enchanting as they are meaningful.
