An homage to the maison’s storied history, Dior’s La Collection Privée steps into its next chapter with couture-inspired lids and trunks for the bottles, all beautifully adorned with the French luxury house’s signature motifs and icons in their own right
Few fragrance houses can claim to have created a legend, but Dior has made it an art, transforming olfactory artistry into an empire of icons. Among these ranks La Collection Privée, a series of 24 exquisite scents created in an ode to Dior’s heritage.
Parfums Christian Dior perfume creation director Francis Kurkdjian draws inspiration from its founder Christian Dior, taking the view that fragrance composition is akin to tailoring, with its formula structured like a garment and its raw materials shaped with couture‑like precision. “I share many character traits with Christian Dior … These shared passions are now the creative foundation of my story with Dior,” says Kurkdjian.
This vision comes to life in the newly redesigned La Collection Privée Christian Dior boutique in Ion Orchard. Within the 42‑square‑metre space, Kurkdjian has designed a fragrance experience—with bespoke consultations, a display of amphoras housing iconic scents, and fragrance accessories—in a setting that pays homage to couturier‑perfumer Monsieur Dior’s atelier.

Couture and fragrance have always been intertwined at Dior. Monsieur Dior introduced the Miss Dior scent shortly after debuting his first fashion collection, establishing himself as not only a couturier, but also a perfumer. Today, this dialogue finds fresh expression in La Collection Privée’s new couture caps and trunks.
When the first La Collection Privée fragrances were introduced in 2004, they were housed within sleek cylindrical bottles crafted from crystal‑clear glass, each crowned with a refined black lacquer cap—a minimalist design that showcased the captivating colour of their contents.
Fast forward to today, and the bottles, in an updated 50 ml capacity as well as 100 ml and 200 ml, have been given a haute upgrade with exquisite new details: a weightier label with a fabric‑like texture, a CD logo elegantly engraved on the base and optional couture caps that are sold separately (the revamped bottles come with the usual black caps), featuring motifs drawn from Dior’s rich legacy and archives. Even the juices within boast more sophisticated hues, echoing the classy exterior updates.
Offering that personalised touch, these couture caps bring together 15 of Dior’s most emblematic prints and design codes. Among them is the timeless Toile de Jouy, offered in five different hues. This historic house signature made its debut in 1947 on the walls of the Colifichet boutique at the maison’s historic 30 Montaigne address, which was dedicated to accessories and decorative curiosities.

Then there is the iconic Houndstooth check, presented in a striking blue, and the Mitzah leopard print. The former has been staple at Dior since its founder incorporated it into the brand’s 1948 haute couture spring‑summer collection, making him one of the first designers to use the pattern in high fashion. The latter, meanwhile, is a tribute to Mitzah Bricard, Monsieur Dior’s muse and arbiter of elegance who inspired the maison’s namesake fragrance. Legend has it she was rarely seen without a leopard‑print chiffon scarf bound around her wrist.
Yet another storied print presented on the couture cap is the Cannage, which dates back to the 1940s. Here, its geometric elegance has been reimagined in blue canvas as well as supple leather in matte black, powder pink and deep cherry red. Asserting its presence in canvas and leather as well is the Dior Oblique print conceived in 1967 by Dior’s then creative director Marc Bohan, a reminder of how Dior elevates pattern to pedigree.
The Plan de Paris print rounds off the select motifs adorning the couture caps. Designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, artistic director for Dior’s women’s collections, for the brand’s spring‑summer 2023 ready‑to‑wear, it maps out the streets of Paris—including Rue du Faubourg Saint‑Honoré, on which Monsieur Dior stumbled upon his lucky star—in classic black and white. These artful toppers are designed to fit all La Collection Privée bottles, regardless of capacity. These include those in Esprits de Parfum, a line within the collection that revisits the maison’s most iconic fragrances through exceptional, highly concentrated formulas, which clock in at a larger 80 ml capacity.

In the spirit of its couture legacy, Dior has also introduced fragrance trunks that flaunt its Cannage, Houndstooth, Dior Oblique and Toile de Jouy prints. Of the three models, the les flaconniers or vanity trunk, available in two sizes, can hold the most, with the smaller version fitting three Esprits de Parfum bottles and the larger, three 100 ml bottles. The solo mini malle or mini trunk, meanwhile, is made to house just one 200 ml bottle. The perfume case, too, is designed to be home to just one 100 ml or 200 ml bottle. Both the vanity trunk and mini trunk boast a rectangular, studded silhouette—horizontal for the former and vertical for the latter—with metallic corners and an elegant clasp closure, while the perfume case is cylindrical and features a zip closure.
Each trunk, rendered with the same exacting precision as Dior’s haute couture creations, undergoes 14 meticulous steps before reaching its final form. Every stage is a study in refinement, from the cutting of the fabric to the seamless adaptation of the pattern to the affixing of the hardware—including a hand‑crafted plaque bearing the Christian Dior stamp, an emblem of authenticity, heritage and savoir faire. More than mere carriers, the trunks transform the presentation of fragrances into a ritual as luxurious as the scents themselves.
