"Personally, as a makeup artist, I believe the key to a day-to-night makeup look is a solid base start. It will make your nighttime look easier to apply either by yourself or your makeup artist.

Based on my experience, the use of makeup during the day depends [on the situation]; every day wear makeup, pictorials for magazine makeup, media and special occasions makeup, skin type, and photography lighting.  

Since there will be natural light inside and outside the premises during the day, I believe that the skin tone with the lighting should be taken into consideration."

"The client can also touch up using any makeup available as the basis for night mode (if the makeup artist is not around). On that note, if the event will be from day to evening, a good make-up look that has a gradual transitioning blend from dark to light or light to dark depending on what the client prefers. Also bear in mind that the client might be the one to do the touch-up because the makeup artist will not be around to assist.  

A longer-wear foundation and lightweight concealer for the undereye and any other blemishes with translucent setting powder also help."
