The SAR has the second highest concentration of billionaires worldwide after New York City, while five other Asian cities are in the top 15, according to a new report

Hong Kong ranks second in the list of cities with the highest number of billionaires worldwide after New York City, according to Altrata’s 2024 Billionaire Census report.

The city is home to 107 billionaires, while New York City tops the list with 144 billionaires.

Five other Asian cities—Beijing, Singapore, Shenzhen, Mumbai and Hangzhou—are among the top 15.

The US and China have the highest numbers of billionaires in the world; they are respectively home to 1,050 and 304 billionaires.

While the global economy has remained sluggish, the number of billionaires in the world has increased in the past year. According to the report, the total net worth of the global billionaire class increased by 9 per cent to a record-breaking US$12.1 trillion [or HK$94.1] last year, and the number of billionaires has increased to 3,323—a rise of 4 per cent compared to last year.

The report, released in November, ranks the number of billionaires in the world in 2023.
