The philanthropic initiative by Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) seeks to advance eye care research, treatment and delivery in Singapore
The 11th edition of The Eye Ball was an evening of elegance and philanthropy that raised a landmark sum for VisionSave's mission of advancing eye care.
Since its inception in 2016, the VisionSave initiative, a collaborative effort between SNEC and SERI, has achieved considerable milestones in its mission of elevating eye care research, treatment, and awareness in Singapore. One of the initiative’s most significant annual milestones is the Eye Ball fundraiser, an event held this year at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, to further amplify its impactful work.
The night began with a Taiko drum performance, followed by an opening speech by Ho Ching Lin, opthalmologist and chairperson of the gala organising committee. “The beauty of flowers is symbolic of the amazing possibilities of transforming eye care and improving lives,” she said while thanking donors, sponsors and guests for their support. Professor Aung Tin, chief executive officer of SNEC and a clinician scientist with clinical and research expertise in angle-closure glaucoma and glaucoma genetics, also highlighted the importance of supporting the cause with vision loss prevention as a key goal.
The night was filled with a fun lineup of activities, with performances by emcee Nikki Muller and Dr Howard Cajucom-Uy Yu. In keeping with the tradition of previous editions, both silent and live auctions were key highlights of the evening's agenda. The big ticket items that went under the hammer included luxury hotel stays and return business-class tickets to Paris.
This year's edition also introduced its inaugural runway show ‘The Glow Up Show’, in partnership with UltraLuxe. Later in the evening, Muller urged attendees to contribute to the Power Pledge, aiming to reach a fundraising goal of $50,000. Thanks to the night’s generous donors, a whopping sum of over SG$2 million was raised and will go a long way in supporting VisionSave’s initiatives to fund research, help less fortunate patients and train the next generation of eye specialists.
