Tatler Singapore’s Tatler for Good series brings together like-minded individuals to discuss the causes they are passionate about—starting first with ocean conservation and sustainability

For nearly 40 years, Tatler Singapore has chronicled the who’s who of Singapore. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary this year, we are looking at how society has progressed. Through our Tatler for Good initiative, we are bringing together like-minded individuals to discuss the causes that they are collectively passionate about, whether it’s English literacy, women empowerment, the arts or sustainability.

On July 4, we hosted our first Tatler for Good event with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. We were joined by Jean-Marc Deromedi, the honorary consul of Monaco in Singapore, along with the Foundation First Circle members—the cause’s most important supporters—Celeste Basapa and Pauline Chan, at an intimate dinner at 1880.

Deromedi elaborated on the foundation’s work in the protection and preservation of the oceans and his ambition to work on a sustainability-related project in Singapore. But not before sharing an anecdote of his first meeting with the principality’s reigning monarch at a party as an 18-year-old, who had his tie around his forehead, no less, bringing laughter all around.

The conversation flowed from the health of our oceans to maintaining a sustainable food chain, with a lively discussion among guests, which included Rumah Group and Rumah Foundation director Kathlyn Tan (who was on the Tatler Singapore May cover), lawyer Vikna Rajah, Sustenir co-founder Benjamin Swan, and Marina Bay Sands sustainability development and engineering director Tan Szue Hann.

Sustainability is one of the most important topics that touches nearly every story we feature in Tatler, with fascinating examples of individuals, businesses and initiatives across Asia that make an environmental impact.

Tatler Singapore had the honour of having His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco grace our August 2018 cover. In the exclusive interview, he spoke about how the history and future of Monaco, and indeed the world, is intimately linked to the health of the oceans.

Prince Albert II returns to our shores on October 28 this year for the Ball in Monaco, a fundraising gala dinner for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. The theme this year is Oceans, addressing topics such as marine waste, clean seas, rising sea levels and endangered species.
