The night saw guests dress to the nines as they celebrate Halogen Foundation Singapore’s 20 years of empowering youth
“I am very grateful to be here but as you know, I have been very busy recently,” former senior minister and Singapore presidential candidate Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam said as he began his speech at the Halogen Ball last Thursday. Along with a host of the foundation’s donors and supporters, Mr Tharman was at Hilton Singapore Orchard as the guest-of-honor to celebrate Halogen Foundation Singapore’s 20th anniversary.
“[Halogen] has done really good work to create space for young people to realise that they can be leaders,” Mr Tharman says, further urging Singapore’s youth to be impatient for change.

The past two decades saw the foundation empower young people to lead change in their communities, in hopes of making the world a better place. “20 years is truly a remarkable time for an organisation like ours to be around,” says Halogen Foundation Singapore’s chief executive officer Ivy Tse.
As the night went on, guests were served a six-course meal and treated to an exciting line-up of performances by local talents, including the Temasek Acappella Group and Gen.T honouree Annette Lee. Guests were also invited to participate in various hands-on activities, including writing words of wisdom on paper planes.
The foundation also announced its new direction—of scaling its offerings to corporates and governments in the region—with a new logo.

That night, founder of Octave Institute and chairman of IMC Pan Asia Alliance Group Mr Chavalit Frederick Tsao also presented Halogen with a contribution of SG$250,000, marking the beginning of a relationship between both Octave and Halogen. “Together, we can co-create a cross-generation education system beyond schooling for a shared future and destiny for humanity,” Tsao said.
Tsao also unveiled his new book, One Choice, One World: The Rise of The Well-Being and Happy Economy, hoping it will engage leaders in conversations to ignite change for the future.
