The focal agency for disability inclusion called for continued collaboration in building an inclusive society and enabling lives
A champion of disability inclusion in Singapore, SG Enable celebrated its 10th anniversary in early May by honouring its partners and supporters and looking back on the sector’s progress.
Themed Celebrate. Collaborate. Champion, the dinner was attended by over 600 guests, including guest of honour Heng Swee Keat, deputy prime minister and coordinating minister for Economic Policies; Masagos Zulkifli, minister for Social and Family Development and second minister for Health; and Eric Chua, senior parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Social and Family Development as well as Culture, Community and Youth.
In his speech, SG Enable chairman Moses Lee said: “We will build upon the achievements of the past decade and continue making strides towards creating equitable opportunities for persons with disabilities to fulfill their potential and aspirations.”
The evening also saw the unveiling of the Our Gift to Singapore installation, a showcase of works by persons with disabilities, which was featured in the National Day Parade (NDP) collaterals distributed to NDP audiences and Singaporean households from 2020 to 2022, along with SG Enable’s upcoming public education campaign video, UnAwkward. The campaign spotlights “invisible disability” to shift mindsets on awareness about disability to positive actions of inclusion.
About 67 organisations and individuals were also recognised during the Enabling Mark awards ceremony for their contributions towards disability-inclusive employment. The evening ended with the performance of a specially commissioned song, Our Story, by a 100-member inclusive choir from Voices of Singapore and SG Enable.
