Under his guidance, Richard Eu, chairman of Eu Yan Sang, turned the homegrown TCM store, which was founded by his great-grandfather in 1879, into a modern company that now offers a diverse range of products from 130 touchpoints across Asia—from Malaysia, where it has over 70 outlets, to Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and China. Apart from these, Eu Yan Sang also runs 25 TCM clinics in Singapore and Malaysia and three medical centres in Hong Kong, with plans to expand its reach to North America.

The 144-year-old company combines the wisdom of TCM with science and technology, collaborating with universities to conduct research. The company also  implements herb fingerprinting, which “enables precise quantification of the ingredients and properties of Chinese Medicine”. Today, Eu Yan Sang offers over 1,000 types of Chinese herbs and 900 products, such as concentrated bird’s nest, pure chicken essence and an oolong tea tin set, all of which are presented in a gift set for the Lunar New Year. The company also touts convenience, presenting its TCM solutions in easy-to-use capsules, pills and powders so that even more people can enjoy its benefits.

Helen Chan, co-founder and director, Vita Green Health Products (Hong Kong)

Dr Helen Chan co-founded Vita Green, the multinational company that has become a household name in Hong Kong because of its popular nutraceutical products. To arrive at its health supplements, which combine Chinese medicine and Western science, the company follows the strictest international standards in its certified factories in Hong Kong and Guangxi, as well as conducts research in centres in Asia, Europe and North America. Chan, herself, leads the research team that conducts preclinical and clinical studies for new and existing products.

Today, Vita Green offers more than 150 products that address various concerns, from sensitive skin to menstrual pain, insomnia to stress. Its most popular product, Vita Green Lingzhi, is derived from the dark mushroom regarded in TCM for its spiritual potency. The company’s own blend contains five types of wild lingzhi, all of which work to restore balance to six organs, supporting cardiovascular health and the immune system, among other benefits.

To improve health and mental well-being. Ding Yi Yang returned to Taiwan to establish Chang Gung Biotechnology. His company integrates ancient knowledge from TCM with breakthroughs in biomedical technology, bridging the healing modalities of Western medicine, which addresses disease symptoms, and Eastern medicine, which takes a whole-body approach to health. The company supports its vision with research facilities at Chang Gung University, Ming Chi University of Technology and the Agricultural and Environmental Research Centre in the US.

Chang Guang offers a wealth of all-natural health supplements, including Han’s Pure Essence of Herbs, which updates the ancient Si-Wu recipe, a traditional formula for women’s health, with more herbaceous plants and cordyceps for a nourishing effect, and its Mind Booster, which addresses stress and memory lapses through its proprietary blend of soy lecithin extracts.
