Long live King Charles III! Here are some things that caught our attention from the coronation ceremony
After Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953, this may be the first time for many people to witness a royal to be crowned king in the UK. In addition, King Charles III is the first British king crowned after the dismantling of the British Empire into a Commonwealth of Nations in 1949. His coronation lasted for two hours only compared to the three-hour spectacle of his predecessor. He had 2,000 attendees, which included several foreign monarchs, world leaders, and religious representatives, showing the King’s determination to maintain UK’s diplomatic relations.

What caught our eyes among the guest list were the two Filipinos, nurses Charito Romano and Xyza Macutay-Malloch. Romano works at the Arbrook House Care Home, a private care home in Surrey. Meanwhile, Macutay-Malloch is a nursing home manager of Kingsley House in Gloucestershire. Before the late Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, the two were awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of their service during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Filipinos also present at the coronation were some of Tatler Asia’s Most Influential honourees, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jnr, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and prominent lawyer and philanthropist Katrina Legarda, an alumna of the University of Bristol in England.
