Here’s what went down at our first-ever sustainability weekend

In partnership with Acer, Tatler Malaysia’s first-ever sustainability weekend was held from October 1–2 at Dusun by OpenHouse in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Aimed at showcasing the choices we have in Malaysia for a greener, more sustainable lifestyle, the event hosted brands committed to sustainability. They include Dasi Frères with its Nespresso-compatible bio-coffee capsules, Palmy's hand-blocked batik that uses a unique lotus-pine fabric, Li Atelier’s beautiful and eco-friendly apparel, and The Modest Brand’s innovative approach to sustainable modest athleisure, among others.

The Aspire Vero comes in Cobblestone Grey—a sleek light grey with flecks of blue and yellow. This model has an OceanGlass touchpad made out of ocean-bound plastic, uses 30 per cent PCR material; and 50 per cent PCR keycaps.

To reduce its carbon footprint during production, Acer commits to recycling and reusing the scrap material generated during the manufacturing of the Aspire Vero.

Acer’s eco-conscious packaging is made with up to 90 per cent recycled paper that can be assembled for different functions—an ergonomic laptop stand or a storage unit. The 100 per cent recycled polyester sleeve can be used as a laptop bag as well as a keyboard sheet.

When asked about their respective brands' commitment to sustainability and being the voices of sustainable change, Ariff, Lai and Thomas agreed on one thing: That being a green label wasn’t just about having an eco-friendly product but taking conscious strides in becoming a circular business model.

For Chan, Yasmin and Azmir, they were of the consensus that to tackle climate change effectively, it needed everyone to support the eco movement.

“We need people to understand that for this journey to happen, a singular entity—be it an industry, a company or a person—cannot do it alone,” says Azmir. “Awareness, data [accessibility], and [environmental] socialisation are what drive it forward.”
