The highly accomplished executive has a strong track record in transforming companies

Dato’ Seri Azmir Merican has been the Group Managing Director of Sime Darby Property since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. His leadership has been critical in helping the corporation overcome the crisis’s global challenges and achieve greater success. He established the company’s unified purpose: to be a value multiplier for people, businesses, economies, and the planet, positioning Sime Darby Property as a forward-thinking real estate player with a diversified portfolio.

Azmir’s introduction of the SHIFT25 strategy has been a key driver in transforming Sime Darby Property from a pure-play developer into a real estate company with a recurring income model. This marks a transition toward sustainable, long-term growth, and it includes the company’s first real estate private equity fund that targets logistics and industrial sectors.

With over 15 years of experience as a CEO, Azmir has been instrumental in driving performance and fostering innovation within the company. His leadership is rooted in a commitment to sustainability, as evidenced by initiatives such as the net-zero ambition, rewilding efforts, and the restoration of forest corridors and soil health.

His efforts have been recognised through the “Outstanding Property CEO” award at The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards 2023, a testament to his visionary leadership and contributions to the real estate sector. As Sime Darby Property continues to expand both locally and internationally, Dato’ Azmir Merican remains at the helm of its transformation journey, steering it toward a future of innovation and sustainability.

“The whole building sector has been very resistant to change. So I think we are looking at how, with ESG and sustainability, we have to change the way we build and the way we live in our homes.”
