Tatler’s Front & Female event in November put the spotlight on Malaysian sports icon Datuk Nicol David as she shared how she developed a world champion’s mindset with an intimate group of guests at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club
Ever wondered what it would be like to have a squash session with World 1 champ, Datuk Nicol David herself? On November 25, an intimate group of Tatler friends did just that at the Front & Female x Nicol David ‘Champion’s Mindset’ luncheon, presented in partnership with Sime Darby Property and Dr Chong Clinic.
Gathering at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club’s (KLGCC) VIP room, guests like Pamela Tan, Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, Datuk Shamrat Sen Gupta and others had the chance to hear an intimate fireside chat with David about how to translate a champion’s mindset to the workplace and emerge a champion in this highly competitive environment.

The fireside chat was followed by a short sharing session by Dr Chong Clinic’s medical director, Dr Leong Chee Yong, on stem cell therapy as the next frontier of fitness. After this, the group adjourned to the KLGCC squash court for a fun and immersive squash masterclass hosted by David and her co-founder at The Nicol David Foundation, Mariana de Reyes.
The session ended with an entertaining set of matches between David and several corporate leaders who battled it out on the squash court against the retired World No 1 squash champion in a friendly competition to raise funds for the Nicol David Foundation. Following a fun photo group session, the crowd returned to the VIP room for a delicious three-course lunch prepared by KLGCC. In between courses, guests networked and had a chance to visit the Dr Chong Clinic counter to do a complimentary skin analysis, taking back home gift bags comprising premium skincare products from 10DRS by Dr Chong Clinic.

“It was such a wonderful experience to hear everything she [Datuk Nicol David] has gone through,” mused Malaysian Olympian and former national artistic gymnast Farah Ann. “Being able to play squash with her and getting her tips was really exciting. I think I may play squash more because of her!” she added.
Through this event, a total of RM30,000 was raised for the Nicol David Foundation—a non-profit organisation that aims to empower girls and boys from underprivileged communities to realise their full potential through a combination of squash training and English tuition in a subsidised after-school programme.
“I have never played squash before. I was amazed with my ability to play along with Datuk Nicol David,” said Matrahah & Associates CEO Emelia Matrahah. “To me, she’s an icon. Being up there but continuing to be so grounded as she shares her experience. She’s really inspiring and empowering to us all. Her current drive to develop the Nicol David Organisation is such a tremendous effort in reaching out to those who are not able to learn and play squash. We always think that squash is only meant for the elite, but it’s more than that.”
