The retired squash champion is currently focused on empowering children through sports
After retiring from competitive squash in 2019, Datuk Nicol Ann David, World Games’ Greatest Athlete of All Time and the longest reigning world number one squash player, immediately got down to establishing the Nicol David Organisation, a non-profit aimed at supporting and uplifting children from the M40 and B40 communities through sports and education.
In a December 2021 interview with Tatler Malaysia, David stated that she hoped to make a lasting impact and encourage children to dream big. “We believe everyone has the potential to be a champion; they just have to have the opportunity,” said David, who is also an Asia's Most Influential 2022 honouree. “When kids step into the court, I can feel that they feel powerful. It's truly an honour to receive the Tatler Diamond Award. The 62 children in our programme are amazing—it's been life-changing to be able to mentor them. They grow confident, they learn how to love themselves and believe in their own power to able to achieve anything through sports. And this positivity is what I want to spread across the nation and the world.
