Winners of the BMCC Business Excellence Awards 2022

British Malaysia Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) held its 3rd Business Excellence Awards recently at Sunway Resort

On May 26, 2022, the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the 2022 Business Excellence Awards, which recognises and celebrates outstanding work and results achieved by corporations of UK and Malaysia across a range of achievement categories. Medical device manufacturer Owen Mumford Malaysia won the coveted UK-Malaysia Business of the Year.

Now in its third year, the awards were supported by The British High Commission Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian Investment Development Authority. There are six categories in total, two of which were introduced this year, namely the Outstanding ESG Award and the UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership Award.

The awards gala at Sunway Resort was graced by Richard Graham, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Malaysia and H.E. Charles Hay, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, with Dato' Sri Dr Adham Baba, Malaysia's Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation as the guest of honour. Soon-to-open-to-public Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill prepared a three-course dinner for the evening.

UK-Malaysia Business of the Year: Owen Mumford Malaysia

"Owen Mumford Malaysia was incorporated in 2014 as the first manufacturing hub outside of the UK and as a regional HQ for the Asia Pacific. Overall, Owen Mumford had a strong and well-balanced submission with good financial performance, staff engagement, and SDG commitments."

UK-Malaysia Partnership of the Year: Astrazeneca and Sunway University

"Besides launching their Health Innovation Hub in 2021, the partnership also opened doors for collaborations with other stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation as well as Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation to help the nation's strategic thrust towards making healthcare more accessible and affordable through digital healthcare."

UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership: Lancaster University

"Presented for their partnership with Sunway University, the establishment of the Future Cities Research Institute as well as their multidimensional partnership is creating jobs and encouraging knowledge transfer, which benefits both Malaysia and UK over a longer term."

Diversity & Inclusion: Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia

"This was a highly competitive award category with a total of 11 nominations received. However, the overall submission including supporting documents gave Standard Chartered Bank Berhad a slight edge over the others."

Technology & Innovation: Arup Malaysia
