The new green-certified Sunway International School Sunway City KL campus will accommodate up to 3,000 students when it officially opens its doors in 2023

In a virtual ceremony this week, Sunway International School (SIS) shared the first preview of its new purpose-built campus in Malaysia, a tech-forward GreenRE Platinum certified site with a capacity for 3,000 students. The new campus, located just 3.5km away from the current SIS campus in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, will span seven acres.

Enrolment has officially opened for the January 2023 at the new campus, where primary level offerings (Grades 1 - 5) in the Ontario Curriculum will be available to Malaysian families for the first time. Currently, Sunway International School's two existing campuses in Malaysia accommodate Middle to High School and Pre-University levels from Grades 6 - 10 in the Ontario curriculum and Grades 11 - 12 in the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. Sunway International School is currently the only Canadian and International Baccalaureate School in Malaysia, boasting a teaching faculty certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.

Touted as Malaysia's first GreenRE Platinum certified school to optimise student performance and well-being, the new SIS campus features 74 classrooms, a drama and theatre room, three art rooms, two music rooms, a technology lab, a language lab, seven new science labs and a library large enough for over 600 students. The primary school and secondary school will have a cafeteria each, while sports facilities on the new campus include a 25m swimming pool, a 45m by 90m football field and a multipurpose hall which can accommodate 2,000 students.

The virtual ceremony was attended by High Commission of Canada in Malaysia acting senior trade commissioner Thomas Abols, International Baccalaureate regional development and recognition manager Faizol Musa and Sunway Education Group representatives including Sunway Education Group CEO Prof. Elizabeth Lee, Sunway Group Education and Healthcare CEO Dato' Lee Weng Keng and Sunway International School executive director Dr Cheng Mien Wee.

“From a total of 25 students when we first started out in 2008, we now have over 1,000 students in our two campuses in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur and Sunway Iskandar Johor," said Prof. Elizabeth Lee during the virtual session. "The new campus, outfitted with the best facilities, will provide more students with the opportunity to develop holistically with one of the best curricula in the world."
