Yang signs

Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

Fire begets fire. When you get a pack of fire signs together, you know they will want to have a good time. Even charts containing other more subdued elements like earth and water will enjoy the fun-loving atmosphere that a fire sign can bring.

In a romantic relationship, a Leo loves romance. This is the sign ruling summer flings and cocktail-making classes as a first date. And although Aries and Sagittarius might be just as up for a fun time, they are unlikely to plan ahead.

Fire signs typically get on with air signs since air adds fuel to the fire and both are considered yang qualities. Gemini, Libra and Aquarius will enjoy the exchange of ideas with their fellow fire friends. Bring a Leo together with a Gemini or a Libra and they’re likely to throw the best party with a great mix of people. However, you could find friction in a Leo-Aquarius relationship since they will tend to butt heads more than others given their stubborn nature.

In a relationship, an Aries is not always going to know how to think about you first: this will be hardest to understand when dating a Libra, whose purpose is often interwoven with being in a partnership with someone else.

Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Air is all about communication, so if you want to partner with an air sign, be prepared to talk.

Gemini loves to meet a diverse range of people, Libra tends to enjoy an intimate huddle and Aquarius wants to talk about abstract ideas. Air signs enjoy the company of fire signs since they’ll be encouraged by the optimism of their fire friends, especially with a Sagittarius-Aquarius duo—both between friends and even as a combination in one’s own chart. However, translating that into a real business might require more earth and typically you’re not going to see a Leo let a Libra—or anyone else for that matter—run the show!

Yin signs

Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Earth partnerships prefer a “slow and steady wins the race” approach. As such, they can be a bit of a downer for fire friends, especially with the Taurus-Sagittarius combination since Taurus prefers a schedule on the hour, every hour, and Sagittarius wants to decide on the day.

This is a tricky combination for business, but if they can appreciate the inherent qualities that each of them brings, there is potential for an amicable vision, but only if the other planets in their chart are in harmony.

Earth signs resonate with their other yin counterparts: water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Both are receptive in nature, although a Virgo may find Cancer’s sensitivity and oftentimes messiness too much to bear and vice versa.

Scorpio-Capricorn makes for a powerful combination in business since they both enjoy controlling (everything). However, their risk-averse nature makes them less likely to jump in head first. Here, the entrepreneurial visions of some planets in Aries will be helpful to get things up and running.

Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)

Water is all about the emotional experience and so you’ll find yourself in deep conversation with your watery friends unless it’s your Scorpio friend and they’re mad at you—in which case, you might never find out.

While water and earth are elements in most harmony with each other, signs opposite each other like Virgo-Pisces or Scorpio-Taurus can seem to be at odds. However, breaking it down, Virgo-Pisces is a great combination for a service-oriented relationship where both parties want to improve the world—one through physical means and the other through spiritual routes. Similarly, both Taurus-Scorpio are about the management of resources. Taurus loves to make their own money, and Scorpio likes to manage others’ money. These two can also get into a gridlock until they understand they are driven by the same motives.
