Be it mindful consumption or mind-body beauty, the top trends surrounding wellness this year are all geared towards benefiting us holistically in the long run

For many of us, the start of a new year serves as a convenient juncture for us to hit the reset button and recommit to our well-being. So if you’re looking to embrace a new wellness journey this year but aren’t sure where to start, we’ve got your covered with the top five wellness concepts that are predicted to be huge trends this year—from holistic sexual wellness to knockout exercises.

We’ve looked at research by various organisations, such as market research company Nielsen, that have analysed trends and search patterns on TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest and Google over the last six months of 2023, as well as the Pinterest Predicts 2024 survey, which forecasts 2024’s trends based on the search patterns of its 428 million users. And here are the patterns we’ve spotted that indicate what will be big in the world of wellness in 2024.

In case you missed it: Editors’ pick: New year’s resolutions for 2024

1. Feel good, look good

Mind-body beauty, a concept that supports the idea that mental well-being and physical appearance are interconnected, will be big in 2024. According to Global Beauty and Personal Care Trends 2024, a report by market research company Mintel, which interviewed 1,000 internet users in China, 89 per cent of respondents said they are actively looking for ways to reduce stress. Also, that there is a growing awareness among respondents that addressing stress and anxiety through mindfulness practices and meditation can improve not only well-being but also the appearance of skin and hair.

2. Mindful consumption

According to market research agency Nielsen’s key trends 2024 report, mindful consumption will be all the rage this year. The report, which interviewed nearly 16,000 respondents from across the world, also suggests that people are leaning even more towards products and brands that are committed to environmental, ethical and humanitarian causes. So the days of casual dining out might soon be replaced by people trying to recreate their favourite dining-out meals at home.

3. Sexual wellness ecosystem

Sexual well-being company Lovehoney Group predicts a rise in the concept of a sexual wellness ecosystem—which is based on the idea that a healthy and satisfying sex life can not only give pleasure but also have a positive impact on our overall physical and mental health in the long run.

4. Knockout workouts

The Pinterest Predicts 2024 report suggests that millennials and Gen Z might turn to combat sports such as karate, kickboxing and jiujitsu for stress relief. Interest in mood boards related to these sports have shot up on Pinterest, with kickboxing aesthetics alone seeing a growth of 256 per cent, while mixed martial arts training saw an interest growth of 200 per cent.

In fact, in Forbes Health’s latest survey—conducted among 1,000 adults in the US on New Year’s resolutions for 2024—which indicates a spike in interest in physical health and fitness, combat sports played a role in the ways in which its respondents said they will pursue better health and fitness this year.

5. Badminton

Another sport that might create a buzz in the wellness space this year is badminton. Pinterest Predicts 2024 reports that interest for the terms “badminton outfits” and “playing badminton aesthetic” are up by 80 and 45 per cent respectively. With its combination of full-body workout and chic sportswear, it’s easy to understand why badminton is predicted to become the next ‘it’ thing in wellness.
