The S$1 billion Therme Singapore project at Marina South Coastal is set to open by 2030, offering an urban escape featuring thermal pools, biophilic design, and world-class arts to emphasise the city-state’s role as a leading global wellness haven
Singapore is setting a new standard for sophisticated urban escapes with the confirmation that the Therme Group will develop Asia’s first large-scale social wellbeing infrastructure project on the Marina South Coastal site. Following the award of a landmark tender by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the S$1 billion Therme Singapore is envisioned as a sprawling, state-of-the-art urban sanctuary designed to seamlessly integrate holistic health into everyday city life.
The project is strategically positioned on a four-hectare waterfront site next to Marina Barrage and Gardens by the Bay, placing it alongside some of the city’s most iconic architectural landmarks. It is projected to attract approximately two million visitors annually at full operational capacity, with nearly half expected to be international travellers. The attraction is slated to open by 2030.

Therme Group, a global leader in developing next-generation wellbeing destinations, collaborated with Singapore’s award-winning DP Architects and its in-house design company, Therme ARC, to develop the winning proposal. The facility is markedly different from traditional spas, aiming instead to be a complete wellbeing destination rooted in three core pillars: Water & Nature, Sustainability & Design, and Arts & Culture.
Dr Robert Hanea, Founder and CEO of Therme Group, stated that the project is an "honour and a reflection of our shared vision for how cities can integrate wellbeing into everyday life." The destination aims to be a place "where wellness, culture and nature come together."
The immersive concept will feature thermal pools, saunas, steam baths, and water slides, designed to appeal to multiple demographics, including working adults, families, and seniors. It will also seamlessly integrate lush botanical landscapes, world-class art installations, and cutting-edge health technology under one roof. Furthermore, Therme Singapore will develop an adjacent public park of almost four hectares, linking the Marina Barrage to the new attraction and enhancing the coastal area’s green and blue environment.
Elevating quality tourism
The STB recognised Therme Group’s proposal for its inventive concept that offers experiences addressing different aspects of wellbeing, from active engagement to ultimate relaxation. The parent company’s operational excellence is proven, having developed two of Europe’s most visited wellness destinations in Bucharest and Erding.
The move capitalises on the robust growth of wellness tourism, where travellers tend to spend significantly more per trip.
Jean Ng, assistant chief executive of the STB’s experience development group, affirmed the strategic significance of the development: “Our vision is to establish Singapore as a leading urban wellness haven through a world class facility that offers transformative wellness experiences for visitors and locals alike.”
