The Lunar New Year has begun and we hope you start the year off right! But in case you got lost in all the celebration, here are the summed-up takeaways to get you back on track

Often than most, we only stay attuned to feng shui forecasts at the dawn of the Chinese New Year festivities. Then after a while, we either forget or tend to brush off the guidance the art and its experts have provided us: whether we're too caught up in various circumstances, occupied with our daily way of life, and got sidetracked with just about everything that's going on. Though inevitable and completely understandable, it is also healthy to keep in mind that seeing through the traditional practice does us good while it brings no harm.

Thus, we are bumping this list of advice from feng shui expert Patrick Lim Fernandez of the Yin & Yang Shop of Harmony, for you to hopefully stay on the right food and potentially help you throughout your personal journeys this 2023.

1. Be clean as you go

Every new year highlights the beginning of spring. And prior to that timely refresh, it is recommended to do some spring cleaning. If you weren't able to do so in time for Chinese New Year's eve, here are some cleaning responsibilities you should take note of in the physical aspect: "Declutter your home, remove things that are not working, and keep everything organised." It is encouraged to buy new clothes, especially underwear, and sport a new haircut as well.

2. Say no to loans

Part of the spring cleaning suggestions before the clock strikes midnight is clearing off your financial ties in terms of loans. "Pay off big loans that you have." And if you weren't able to do so, prioritise settling your differences. "If possible, don't make any new loans all around the year."

3. Make peace

Regardless of whether it's a long or short-term indifference, making peace with other people and maintaining harmonious relationships is the last piece of advice in the spring cleaning queue. "Get along with everyone and don't start fights." After all, it is the Year of the Romantic Water Rabbit, perhaps the year for relationships.

4. On favored flowers, foods, and numbers

Another way to spread cheer in light of spring is to elevate your space with fresh flowers. Apart from the flora, these five fruits are worthy to note of their representation: pomelo for cleansing, orange for money luck, pineapple for welcoming wealth in, apple for harmony, and dragonfruit for victory. Sweets are also symbolic of treats that highlight the sweetness and prosperity of life while sticky delights speak for the family sticking together. Even numbers like 4, 6, and so on, might come in handy for luck too.

5. Consider directions

It is urged to steer clear from the areas of east and northwest. "If your house is facing the east and northwest, try to avoid major renovations. Don't put any furniture or items that are red in colour and are incorporated with fire." This year, avoid lively things in the bedroom and maintain it as a place solely for rest: avoid bright colours, or devices that might keep you busy. "Keep it a place for rest, for yin. There should be no mirrors facing the bed to maintain the chi and no technologies such as television; these will disrupt the positive energy, causing you not to have a good night's sleep as these reflect and bounces back the chi. If unavoidable, cover the mirrors and television at night and when unused."

6. Protect your energy

Art takes shapes in many forms. And through artworks, either we influence or become influenced. One thing about the many wonders of art is it certainly gives or takes energy—and feng shui warns us to protect our energy. "Rethink keeping melancholic art collections at bay, surround yourself with art that makes you feel good instead." If a specific artwork makes you feel negative, you might want to opt for one that makes you feel joy.

It might seem that these are merely facts of life in general and are related to science, which they are. But still, it's an interesting feat that we're capable of digesting this information through a form of art: feng shui. Don't you agree, believers?
