Take a look at what awaits inside The Medical City’s one-stop shop for holistic and personalised self-care

The recent years have significantly evolved our perceptions of healthcare. Many of us have not only become more conscious of how physical and mental well-being go hand in hand but also of how safeguarding our health requires a level of commitment that is personal, intentional and proactive.

Echoing these ideals, the expansive network of The Medical City (TMC) is ruled by its compelling proposition to be an institution “where patients are partners”. As it continues to build a healthier Filipino community through the multi-awarded excellence of its staff and its fruitful engagement with patrons, TMC opens the doors to a newly renovated Wellness and Aesthetics Institute (WAI) where bespoke and holistic healthcare takes centre stage.

“Having regular checkups and taking care of your skin are ways of doing self-care where WAI can provide unique, personalised services,” says WAI director Dr Christian Flores. “Overall, it’s about feeling good inside and looking good outside, encapsulating the completeness of the individual.” Having recognised this, TMC’s Centre for Wellness and Aesthetics was launched as a stand-alone unit back in 2009 until it grew into a more robust institute in 2018. With comprehensive services encompassing various specialisations, this hub today is a well-curated one-stop shop for different age groups and distinctive wellness needs.

Within the WAI’s relaxing and exclusive location on the sixth and seventh floors of TMC’s Podium Building, patients can customise health screening packages based on assessment, lifestyle and demographics with the institute’s concierge. If they are found to have existing conditions and risk factors that may develop into fully-fledged illnesses, clients are referred to multi-speciality doctors without having to leave the premier facility.

Dr Flores explains, “The Centre for Preventive Health and Lifestyle Medicine hinges on preventing disease and optimising an individual’s health through mainly non-pharmacologic strategies as the main thrust of the centre. This practice is meant to manage and possibly reverse conditions such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high blood cholesterol, uric acid and weight issues by managing lifestyles like nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress and resiliency vice aversion and management.” In some instances, this is paired with pharmacologic therapy, or the use of medications, to control certain disease conditions and risk factors while giving individuals the time to incorporate healthy habits for a more balanced, energetic and positive life.

Truly a reliable partner for all, the WAI caters to entire families by housing units for paediatrics and adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Underlining the strength and value of their paediatric and adolescent suite, Dr Flores says, “We feel that pre-emptive care should start from there because this is where certain habits develop. This is where we can educate the household, meaning the parents, the caretakers, the cooks and everyone involved in the family dynamics.”

He likewise regards their Centre for Geriatric Medicine as a hub for those in pursuit of healthy ageing: “Ageing is an inevitable process but ageing healthily and gracefully is a choice. This rests on the well-established practice of a healthy lifestyle and is a big factor that prevents common issues like weak bones, fading memory and weak muscles. It is during this time as well that some individuals already have disease conditions, and so a combination of lifestyle and medical management can help prevent complications while strengthening the foundations of the body’s functions.” In this way, Dr Flores hopes that the WAI can accompany more patients throughout the different stages of life.

Complementing all this is the WAI’s cosmetic-focused unit, named Aesthetics by The Medical City, which grants patrons the expertise to look their best while feeling their best. Resounding how these procedures can improve one’s well-being by promoting confidence and self-esteem, the WAI offers an array of tools and equipment, from skin assessment and rejuvenation machines to aesthetic lasers and sought-after injectables, that are delivered by a team of aesthetic experts, dermatologists and plastic surgeons. It also has its own operating suite and in-patient rooms on the seventh floor, making the experience more seamless and private for clients after their surgical procedures.

With its comforting facilities and hospitality, redesigned packages and continued purveyance of education across all segments, the WAI embodies the innovative vision and people-anchored philosophy of TMC, partaking in every patient’s unique journey with a committed and stalwart stance. Further serving as a reminder that it is never too early or late to take proactive steps for one’s well-being, the WAI is indeed the kind of place you always return to for life-enriching care.
