Sustainable, stylish and functional, Tumi aims to ensure smoother travel for all
Revenge travel is real, as demonstrated by the sheer number of people on the road these days for work and play. Travel has become a part of everyday life for most working professionals, whether they’re going to and from the office, airport or to a dreamy bucket list destination.
“We’re seeing a new crop of modern consumers who are travelling more frequently than ever,” says Amy Imbriaco, Tumi’s general manager for Greater China. With many making up for lost time after the pandemic, travellers are also increasingly combining business with pleasure—resulting in the new terms “bleisure” and “lisness”.
“As people’s habits change, our products evolve with them,” says Imbriaco, who cites the Tumi+ collection of modular accessories as an example. “Recognising that people want multipurpose bags that they can customise to their individual needs, we created Tumi+ accessories to help extend their functionality and purpose.”
Besides functionality, travellers are expecting a lot more from their luggage these days, especially in the age of Instagram. “People want to look their best when they board that flight and are willing to invest more in their luggage and day bags,” says Imbriaco. “They recognise how important the quality and protection of their belongings are, and want lightweight, durable, technologically advanced travel items that combine style and versatility.”

Tumi’s 19 Degree collection from autumn-winter 2023 perfectly embodies its design philosophy of premium craftsmanship and performance luxury. “The fluid-looking, beautifully contoured angles of the outer shell are made from recycled polycarbonate which is lightweight and incredibly durable,” says Imbriaco. “When you get close, you get to experience our famed attention to detail through myriad features—from zip expansion to USB charging ports and smooth rotating wheels.”
Sustainability is also a hot topic among travellers, who are more conscious than ever about reducing their carbon footprint. Tumi products have always been built to last, but the company has taken great strides towards making its products even more sustainable.
For instance, its Alpha Bravo collection is derived from post-industrial and post-consumer waste materials that would otherwise end up in landfills, such as recycled nylon and plastic bottles, while the Harrison collection in black uses upcycled leather. Tumi’s 19 Degree collection also donates one per cent of its proceeds to the brand's own Planet initiative, which supports certified global environmental efforts.
Sustainable, stylish and functional—Tumi ticks all the right boxes for “people on the move who embody a deep passion for travel and seek extraordinary experiences,” says Imbriaco. “Ultimately, they want functional features that help make their journeys smoother as they seek to unwind.” And who wouldn’t want their travels to go more smoothly?
