A coastal escape: Rizman Nordin and family’s Johor adventure

The family’s much-anticipated trip began with a scenic drive, excitement building with every kilometre. Upon arriving at the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, Rizman, Nurida and the girls were greeted with the VIP treatment, a warm welcome that set the tone for the rest of their stay. Their duplex room, a spacious and stylish haven, offered the perfect retreat after their journey. But with two energetic daughters in tow, relaxation would have to wait. The first stop was the Kids Club, a vibrant wonderland where the girls happily immersed themselves in a world of fun and games. With their children in safe hands, Rizman and Nurida seized the opportunity for some well-deserved pampering, indulging in a rejuvenating couple's spa treatment at the Anantara Spa, a sanctuary of serenity.

The next day, the family’s adventure truly began. Back at the hotel, an interactive soundboard showcasing the local Mangrove Tour and Bird Watching experiences caught the girls' attention. With the press of a button, they were transported from the hotel's vibrant atmosphere to the serene and natural beauty of the Desaru coast. The family embarked on a captivating Mangrove Tour, cruising along the tranquil river. The lush greenery of the mangroves and the chorus of exotic birds provided a stunning backdrop for their riverine exploration. It was a moment of pure connection, a shared experience that brought them closer to nature and to each other.

The mangrove tours are led by JungleWalla Tours, founded by Irshad Mobarak, one of Malaysia’s best-known naturalists. Irshad has been working in the field and promoting conservation in Malaysia for over 30 years, even appearing in a number of international documentaries such as National Geographic Channel’s Mysteries of the Malaysian Rainforest. JungleWalla Tours specialises in wildlife tours in Peninsular Malaysia, and all tour guides are trained by Irshad himself, focusing on the natural history of birds, butterflies and rainforests.

The gentle splash of the river soon gave way to the exhilarating whoosh of water slides as the family’s adventure continued at the Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast. “Definitely the water park,” Rizman shares when asked about his favourite leisure activity in Desaru Coast. “It’s super convenient since it’s located right beside Hard Rock Hotel, making it easy to access without much hassle. Plus, it’s perfect for family activities—there are rides and attractions that suit both kids and adults, so everyone gets to have fun together. It really brings that balance of excitement and relaxation.”

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the coast, the family gathered for a memorable dinner at Kedidi, a charming poolside restaurant at The Westin Desaru Coast Resort. With the sound of the ocean as their soundtrack, they savored a delectable meal, sharing stories and laughter under the starlit sky. The restaurant, known for its fresh seafood and serene ambiance, provided the perfect setting for a quiet family evening.

On their final morning, as they prepared to check out, a touch of sadness lingered in the air. Their youngest daughter, in particular, was reluctant to leave the paradise they had called home for the past few days. But Rizman had one last surprise up his sleeve. To his daughter’s delight, he presented her with a VIP ticket to Legoland Malaysia, a promise of one more adventure before their holiday came to an end.

The family's VIP experience at Legoland was nothing short of magical. They enjoyed priority access to all the rides, met their favorite Legoland characters, and were treated like royalty throughout the day. The highlight of their Legoland adventure, however, was a heartwarming moment of family pride. Their daughter, with her family cheering her on, successfully completed the Legoland Driving School and received her very own driver's license, a triumphant end to an unforgettable family trip.

For Rizman, this trip was more than just a vacation; it was a precious opportunity to reconnect with his family. ”For me, it’s all about bonding,” he reflects. “After hectic days at work, travelling with my family gives us the chance to reconnect and spend quality time together without distractions. It’s those simple moments—sharing meals, exploring new places, laughing together—that really strengthen our connection and create lasting memories.”

The Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, with its perfect blend of family-friendly fun and adult relaxation, proved to be the ideal setting for the Nordin family's getaway. “I would say the combination of Hard Rock Hotel and the water park really stands out as the most family-friendly aspect,” Rizman says. “There are so many activities designed specifically for kids, from the Kids Club to family-friendly dining options. At the same time, adults can relax and enjoy the facilities. It’s that balance that makes it ideal for a family getaway.”

From the thrill of the waterpark to the tranquility of the mangrove tour, and the magical surprise of a Legoland adventure, Rizman and his family's Desaru Coast getaway was a testament to the joy of shared experiences and the importance of creating lasting memories together. It was a reminder that in the end, it's not about where you go, but who you have beside you.
