This untouched paradise offers a tranquil retreat, boasting pristine beaches, a laid-back atmosphere and diverse natural beauty. From majestic peaks to the crystal-clear waters surrounding the Gili Islands, Lombok is the perfect destination to get away from life’s hustle and closer to nature.
The stunning island is home to plenty of luxurious resorts, the latest being The Sira, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. Opened in 2024, the charming resort blends modern luxury with traditional Indonesian charm, immersing guests in Lombok’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
A strong yearning for a beach getaway led us to The Sira. Seeking a brief respite from the city’s hustle and bustle, we checked in for a three-night stay, eager to unwind and rejuvenate in this picturesque setting.

Stepping into the lobby, we were immediately enveloped in serenity and warmth. The open-air design allows natural light to pour in, highlighting the beautiful local craftsmanship that adorns the space and connecting us with the island’s rich cultural heritage.
The resort and its surroundings are beautifully captured in a sculpture by renowned Balinese artist I Made Jojol. The magnificent artwork is the centrepiece of the lobby, depicting the vibrant sunshine and sea breeze as they weave through coconut trees, frangipani and gentle waves. The island’s heritage can also be seen through stunning pottery pieces found throughout the resort. Handmade from Banyumelek Village, a renowned pottery village in Lombok, these striking pieces feature abstract black patterns created using a unique technique of spraying tamarind liquid onto the piece after firing.
Local touches are even found in the lobby’s bathrooms through artworks by Indonesian artist Winnie Handayani Kamalika. The breathtaking piece celebrates Lombok’s lush fauna set against the backdrop of Mount Rinjani.
As we admired these local touches, we were warmly welcomed by the resort’s staff, who promptly checked us in.

The Sira is home to 60 guest suites and villas, with the latter set to open later this year. During our stay, we were pampered with the Ocean View Suite King room, a spacious retreat featuring a private balcony overlooking the resort and the ocean, expansive lounging areas and a double vanity bathroom. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring in natural light while allowing us to wake up to beautiful views and calming sounds of the sea. Touches of local craftsmanship continue from the lobby into the suites, with the space adorned with beautifully handmade pottery pieces and batik-inspired accents.
The room is also equipped with thoughtful amenities including a beach bag and hats crafted by local artisans. The bag is intricately crafted from pandan leaves, while the hats are made from palm leaves, both traditional woven fabrics that reflect the island’s vibrant cultural traditions.

Beyond accommodation, the resort offers various activities designed to enrich the guest experience. Along with its 70-metre infinity pool that spans two levels, the resort has a spa that marries centuries-old Sasak healing traditions with contemporary spa therapies. Find unique treatments like the Indigenous Tuak experience that begins with a relaxing foot ritual followed by a full body scrub using a mix of coconut brown sugar, sugar and coconut oil. The blend helps to tone and fortify malnourished skin, boost circulation and regenerate the skin. The experience ends with a mask to refresh and moisturise the body.
The resort also features exclusive Epicurean Journeys. A standout is the A Morning by Waterfall experience that indulges you in a sumptuous breakfast spread amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Gangga Waterfall. Wear comfortable walking shoes and take a leisurely stroll up to the waterfall for a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
Various family-friendly activities are also available throughout the day, from Sasak language lessons to coconut leaf weaving.

Our lunches were spent at Medsa, an outdoor Mediterranean restaurant within the property serving up Italian and Greek comfort fare. The Wagyu beef was one of our favourites, featuring a skewer of juicy Wagyu beef and pepper grilled until beautifully aromatic and charred. It’s paired with an earthy spiced tahini. The restaurant is conveniently located just next to the resort’s pool and beach, allowing us to have a quick stop for a meal before continuing our day under the sun.
Over at The Island Table, the all-day restaurant serves a selection of traditional Indonesian dishes and Western brunch fare in the morning. In the evenings, the restaurant serves up an extensive selection of Indonesian plates like nasa goreng, rendang daging and ayam taliwang. Main dishes are accompanied by a generous serving of rice. We recommend enjoying the meal with the restaurant’s sambal belachan for an additional kick.
While we were there, The Island Table also offered a preview of dishes from Sija, the property’s Asian restaurant that’s to open in the upcoming months. We got to try its Asian specialities like the spicy fried Korean chicken, wok-tossed Angus beef in a black pepper sauce and the Sija roll. The latter is a maki roll comprising shrimp tempura, avocado, salmon, tuna and spicy mayonnaise.

Plenty of experiences are available outside the resort. Just a short boat ride away lies Gili Air, one of the enchanting Gili Islands that’s renowned for its exceptional diving sites.
