5 ways to celebrate the Lunar New Year at The Peninsula Hong Kong

As it has for over 40 years, The Peninsula Hong Kong will mark the arrival of the  Lunar New Year with one of the city’s most spectacular lion and dragon dance performances—a tradition that symbolises prosperity and good luck for the coming year. 

The ritual of awakening nine lions and one dragon will begin at 9:30 am on January 29 in the hotel forecourt, after which the dance will continue through the lobby and throughout the hotel to bring luck, blessings and good fortune to both hotel guests and staff members. 

This year, the dance troupe of nine lions and one dragon will include three exclusive Peninsula red and gold lions - look closely, as their costumes are marked with the  Chinese character for the hotel’s name on the back of their heads.  

A second lion and dragon dance performance will also be hosted at The Peninsula Hong Kong at 8:30 am on February 1, the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, which is regarded as the birthday of the God of Wealth.
