Mr Nutcracker and his team of penguins are turning Island Shangri-La hotel into an enchanted Christmas wonderland

Children’s workshops, a gourmet gift market and special set menus are just some of the goodies that Island Shangri-La has planned for the Christmas season, cementing the hotel as the place for families to create happy memories during the holidays.

Family experiences include the immersive Santa’s House and a series of kids’ workshops where they can create their very own “Shangri-La Airship” and a Christmas pretzel wreath. Overseeing all this is the charming Mr Nutcracker and his team of cute penguins, who have been working hard to spread joy aboard the Shangri-La Airship since long before the hotel’s Christmas tree was lit up on November 24. The team’s work can be seen throughout the Christmas Market, which has set up shop in the hotel lobby and will run until December 26—offering gingerbread houses, advent calendars and chocolate treats. The Lobby Lounge has also transformed into The Shangri-La Wonderliner, inviting guests to hop onboard and enjoy a winter-themed afternoon tea.

There are plenty more Christmas culinary experiences to be found around the hotel, with something for everyone in the family. Guests feasting on Cafe Too’s sumptuous buffet on Christmas Day will get to indulge in turkey, Boston lobster, snow crab and more, while Santa Claus will make a special appearance. The Lobster Bar and Grill will serve up a Christmas set dinner with dishes such as a scallop tartare with mandarin and fennel, and the always-popular beef Wellington, while its famous bar will be serving its signature mulled wine and a festive version of the Bellini cocktail throughout the month.

Guests wanting to celebrate with a fine-dining experience can sit down to a set lunch or dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant Petrus and savour creative dishes such as Hokkaido potatoes topped with Kristal caviar, salmon roe and seaweed.

There is also a Christmas Wonderland Escape staycation package that’s ideal for families, which includes HK$1,000 of hotel credit, a visit to the hotel’s Santa’s House and a winter-themed afternoon tea to enjoy in the room.

Even the hotel’s holistic Yun Wellness experience has got into the spirit of the season with a special Festive Embrace Warming Ritual. The treatment starts with a body peel using products from British brand Tata Harper, followed by a massage using oil infused with cinnamon and clove.

And to spread Christmas cheer beyond the hotel, Island Shangri-La has filled a special hamper with its own Christmas cookies, stollen cake, panettone, hot chocolate, a bottle of Veuve Cliquot champagne and more. Every hamper sold will contribute to the Heep Hong Society, an NGO helping children in Hong Kong who require special education.

Whether it is a gourmet hotel stay or a retail experience, Mr Nutcracker and his penguins will ensure families have a very merry Christmas at Island Shangri-La.
