Malaysia Airlines spreads its wings to Chiang Mai, offering direct flights to this captivating Thai destination
To celebrate the inaugural route, Malaysia Airlines has partnered with Michelin-starred Chef Darren Chin to create an original documentary travel series that showcases the wonders of Chiang Mai.
Titled Time for Chiang Mai with Chef Darren Chin, the series follows Chef Chin as he embarks on a culinary tour of the region’s unique dishes. Each episode offers viewers an immersive, multi-sensory journey through the sights, sounds, and tastes of Chiang Mai. All episodes are available on Malaysia Airlines’ official YouTube channel.

The premiere of the four-part series took place during an exclusive dinner at Gai by Darren Chin, where guests were treated to a curated menu inspired by Northern Thailand’s rich culinary traditions.

Highlights included khao soi gai, northern kingfish larb salad, fried banana blossom, wild red coral trout in ‘hor mok’ farce, Songkhla river prawn, and aged duck supreme in ‘kheng tet’ northern spice. The feast concluded with a pandanus pudding in coconut cream and egg custard sangkaya with sticky rice, leaving attendees eager to explore more of Northern Thailand’s cultural and culinary offerings.

At the event, Dersenish Aresandiran, chief commercial officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, expressed excitement about the new route: “We are thrilled to announce the commencement of flights to Chiang Mai, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to strengthen our role as the gateway to Asia and beyond. This new service marks our 16th ASEAN destination, underscoring Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to expanding our network, welcoming inbound tourists, and enriching the travel experiences of our passengers.”
Aresandiran also highlighted the importance of the collaboration with Chef Chin, stating, “By connecting taste with travel, we showcase the shared rich culinary and cultural experiences from our main hub in Kuala Lumpur and Chiang Mai. We invite travellers to fly with Malaysia Airlines to discover the diverse cultures and stunning attractions of both destinations.”
