Cementing its status as the country’s most prominent hotel developer and operator, Alliance Global Group, Inc (AGI) lays out aggressive expansion plans across the archipelago

A noteworthy leader in the real estate, gaming and leisure, and food and beverage industries, Alliance Global Group, Inc (AGI) continues to rise with no signs of abating. The premium lifestyle conglomerate led by father-and-son Dr Andrew L Tan and Kevin Tan recently disclosed its plans to pour major investments in the Philippine hospitality industry, building upon its immense portfolio of close to 7,500 hotel room keys across the country.

This is currently spread across the group’s 19 international and homegrown hotel properties, each situated in high-traffic tourist destinations and business hubs. AGI subsidiary Travelers International Hotel Group operates six international hotel brands alone, including Marriott Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, Hotel Okura, and Holiday Inn Express in Pasay’s Newport City plus Courtyard by Marriott in Iloilo City.

Megaworld, another subsidiary of AGI and a leading property developer in the Philippines, boasts double that number under its Megaworld Hotels & Resorts brand. Among its 12 hotel brands in the country are Richmonde Hotel Ortigas, Eastwood Richmonde Hotel, Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, Savoy Hotel Manila, Savoy Hotel Boracay, Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown, Belmont Hotel Manila, Belmont Hotel Boracay, Belmont Hotel Mactan, Kingsford Hotel Manila, Twin Lakes Hotel near Tagaytay, and Hotel Lucky Chinatown in Binondo, Manila. Global-Estate Resorts, Inc (GERI), which is part of the Megaworld Group, also operates Fairways & Bluewater in Boracay, Aklan.

“AGI remains the biggest player in the Philippine tourism sector, with the largest array of international and homegrown hotels at varying price points to cater to all types of tourists and visitors,” expressed AGI chief executive officer Kevin Tan. He adds, “With the surge in domestic and international tourism activities, all our hotels have been experiencing high occupancy rates and much-improved average daily room rates.”

Three years after the onset of the pandemic, and with the Philippine economy reopened, the local tourism industry has been in a period of strong recovery. The fast-growing sector has seen increased discretionary spending for staycations, travel, leisure and entertainment, and the resurgence in MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) activities throughout the country.

Revenues from AGI’s tourism segment likewise reached a historic high of PHP 38.6 billion in 2022, growing by 84 per cent year-on-year and exceeding pre-pandemic 2019 levels by 10 per cent. Tan revealed, “This segment has grown its importance within the group and now contributes over 20 per cent of AGI’s business from its share of 15-16 per cent about five years ago.”

Fortifying this steady upward trajectory, the conglomerate is looking to grow its hotel capacity to around 11,000 room keys by 2028 with the addition of six hotel properties under Megaworld Hotels & Resorts. These new homegrown brands will be located in various cities and towns across the country, namely Parañaque City, Laguna, Bacolod City, San Fernando in Pampanga, Boracay in Aklan, and San Vicente in Palawan.

Ultimately, these expansion plans are not merely aggressive ventures for AGI but strategic manoeuvres to solidify its position as the leading hotel developer and operator in the Philippines. With an unwavering commitment to excellence and a relentless drive for innovation, this industry powerhouse propels itself towards a future of immense promise, new heights, and unprecedented legacy.
