Young golfer Nguyen Anh Minh has achieved the extraordinary, becoming the first Vietnamese player to reach the final of the 2025 US Junior Amateur. At the same time, he edges closer to a coveted spot in the US Open, one of the four most prestigious majors in global golf.
In the sweltering 38-degree heat of Dallas, Nguyen Anh Minh showcased his fierce determination and remarkable stamina. After a rocky start in the opening round, carding a 74 and ranking 114th, he made a stunning comeback in round two with a five-under-par 66. The turnaround saw him safely through the cut and into the top 64 knockout round. Currently ranked 52nd in the world on the WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking), Minh dispatched a string of formidable opponents in the rounds of 64, 32 and the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals at Trinity Forest Golf Club (Texas, USA), Minh triumphed over China’s Qiyou Wu with a 4&3 victory, securing his place in the final of the 77th US Junior Amateur. Earlier, he had claimed a decisive win in the quarter-finals, defeating local favourite Nicholas Gross 3&1.

I hope this success will inspire many young Vietnamese to pursue their passion for golf with confidence.”

It is the first time a Vietnamese athlete has reached the final match of a USGA (United States Golf Association) event. According to tournament regulations, the US Junior Amateur champion is granted a special invitation to compete in the following year’s US Open, to be held at the esteemed Shinnecock Hills Golf Club—one of golf’s four premier majors.
Minh is currently Vietnam’s number one golfer and holds the 52nd spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. At just 18, he has made it to the tournament’s top 8 for two consecutive years—an unprecedented feat for a Vietnamese golfer. Season by season, his persistence and steady rise have cemented his reputation among the international junior golfing elite.

In the final, Minh will go head-to-head with 17-year-old Hamilton Coleman of Georgia (USA). Like Minh, Coleman has battled his way past a strong field to earn his place. The highly anticipated showdown between these two young talents promises a dramatic and well-matched contest.
